Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf you need Steam reviews for an analytics workflow, Steam’s documented IUserReviewsService.GetAppReviews is the direct route and the documented replacement for the deprecated store review endpoint. Hosted services such as SteamApis and Steam Index API are options to investigate when you want a vendor-managed interface or review data alongside other app metrics, but their documentation does not establish that they are complete substitutes. The right choice depends on whether you need raw review collection, multi-app reporting, or broader game analytics.
Which Steam review data route fits your use case?
| Route | What its documentation establishes | Best fit to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Web API: GetAppReviews | Cursor-paginated public reviews for an app, with filters including language, review type, purchase type, playtime, Steam Deck, and hardware. Anonymous access is allowed; an app-associated publisher key raises the rate limit. Steamworks Documentation. | Direct collection and custom analytics where you can manage pagination, filtering, and rate limits. |
| SteamApis | A hosted, cursor-paginated endpoint for reviews of a specific app. Its documentation lists review text, Steam ID, playtime at review time, votes, and timestamps. It requires an API key in the x-api-key header. SteamApis documentation. |
Projects where a vendor-managed endpoint may reduce integration work; confirm terms, limits, and coverage before relying on it. |
| Steam Index API | Documentation lists app metadata, review summaries, live player figures, and a review-history endpoint. It does not establish the history span, rate limits, pricing, or coverage in the cited documentation. Steam Index API documentation. | Investigating a combined view of reviews and other app metrics. |
These are different access patterns, not proven equivalents. The official API connects directly to Steam’s review service; a third-party API may reduce integration work, but its own access terms and data behavior matter. SteamDB’s FAQ raises the question of an API, but the cited page does not establish a public API suitable for bulk review analytics, so it should not be treated as a direct substitute. SteamDB FAQ.
Use Steam’s official endpoint for direct review collection
Steamworks describes IUserReviewsService.GetAppReviews as an interface to “get a dump of the reviews on an application in Steam.” Its endpoint is https://api.steampowered.com/IUserReviewsService/GetAppReviews/v1/. An appid is required. A Web API publisher authentication key is optional, but a key associated with the app provides a higher rate limit. Steamworks Documentation.
Filters and pagination
The response is delivered in pages with a cursor for requesting the next page. The API supports parameters for language, sorting and filtering, review type, purchase type, playtime, Steam Deck, and hardware. Steam documents day_range as defaulting to 30, with a maximum of 365 and 0 meaning no limit. Pick filters to match the question you are measuring; for example, reviews from a particular language or purchase type are not interchangeable with an unfiltered population. Steamworks Documentation.

Pagination behavior depends on the filter. Steam says paging through all reviews using Recent or Updated eventually returns an empty list. Helpful uses a sliding date window and is designed to continue returning results. A collection job should therefore use a paging strategy appropriate to its filter rather than assuming every sort/filter combination ends the same way. Steamworks Documentation.
Authentication, caching, and rate limits
Anonymous requests are permitted, but Steam says anonymous responses may be cached for up to 10 minutes and that calls without an associated key share a lower rate limit. Rate-limited requests return HTTP 429. For recurring collection, handle 429 responses and avoid treating an anonymous response as necessarily refreshed immediately. Steamworks Documentation.

Migrate from the deprecated store review endpoint
The legacy route, store.steampowered.com/appreviews/<appid>?json=1, is deprecated. Steam identifies GetAppReviews as its documented replacement. The new service changes how parameters are passed and maps string filter values to enums; it also adds Funny sorting and date, playtime, Steam Deck, and hardware filters. Steam’s transition announcement said the new method “should basically return the same data,” while noting that requests change. The announcement directed developers to move to the Web API endpoint and said the old endpoint was scheduled to be disabled on October 22; the surfaced announcement does not establish a year for that date. Steamworks Documentation · Steamworks Development announcement.
When adapting an existing collector, check its request parameters against the new endpoint’s enums and pagination cursor, then verify that its selected filters still represent the intended dataset. Do not assume a legacy URL and a Web API request can be swapped without changing request construction.

What third-party services do—and do not—establish
SteamApis
SteamApis documents a cursor-paginated endpoint for reviews of one Steam app. Its listed review fields include text, the author’s Steam ID, playtime at review time, vote counts, and timestamps. The documentation requires an API key sent in the x-api-key header. It does not, in the cited material, establish pricing, historical completeness, service guarantees, or how its coverage compares with Steam’s own endpoint. SteamApis documentation.
Steam Index API
Steam Index API documentation presents app metadata, review summaries, live player figures, and a review-history endpoint. That combination may suit an analysis that needs more than review text, but the documentation cited here does not establish how far back review history reaches, its rate limits, pricing, or coverage. Confirm those details and the applicable access terms before building a project around it. Steam Index API documentation.

SteamDB
SteamDB’s FAQ includes a question about an API, but that alone does not document a public bulk-review interface. Treat it as a reference site unless you verify an API and terms that meet your specific collection needs. SteamDB FAQ.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose by the data and workflow you need
- For direct access to public reviews: start with GetAppReviews, especially if you need Steam’s documented filters and can implement cursor pagination and rate-limit handling.
- For a hosted integration: compare SteamApis against the exact fields, app coverage, historical depth, limits, and terms your workflow requires. Its endpoint documentation establishes a review endpoint, not completeness or reliability guarantees.
- For reviews plus app-level context: investigate Steam Index API if its metadata, review summaries, live player figures, and history endpoint fit your use case; verify the history window and access conditions first.
- For multiple games: distinguish gathering reviews app by app from getting a consolidated analytics product. The cited vendor documentation does not establish cross-app bulk coverage or a complete multi-game dataset.
- For historical analysis: confirm what “history” means—individual review records, daily or aggregate summaries, or a limited time range. The available Steam Index documentation does not state the history span, and SteamApis documentation cited here does not establish historical completeness.
Before adopting any third-party service, check its current pricing, terms, rate limits, operational status, app coverage, and historical window. Those details are not established by the documentation cited here, so no price, uptime, speed, or completeness comparison is warranted.
