The next Halo game is Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. It launched on July 28, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. You can play solo, in two-player console split-screen, or in cross-platform co-op for up to four players. Before joining friends, set up a Microsoft account and Gamertag; PlayStation and Steam players need to link their platform accounts to Microsoft accounts for cross-platform friends and co-op.
What kind of Halo game is Campaign Evolved?
Halo: Campaign Evolved retells the campaign of Halo: Combat Evolved. Its premise is familiar: Master Chief and Cortana crash-land on the ringworld Halo, where they defend stranded shipmates from Covenant forces and uncover a threat to life in the galaxy. Halo Studios describes the game as a ground-up remake with high-definition visuals, improved controls, refined level design, expanded narrative, and enhanced cinematics and sound. You do not need background on the studio’s wider technology projects to follow this game.
The campaign contains the original story’s 13 missions, plus three new missions set before those events. The new missions feature Sergeant Avery Johnson alongside new characters, enemies, environments, and dangers. The remake also adds nine weapons from across the Halo universe, including the Energy Sword and Battle Rifle. Vehicle updates include the ability to hijack enemy vehicles and an additional rear seat in the Warthog.
How should you choose a platform?
The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Since cross-platform co-op is supported, you can choose based on the hardware you already own and where your friends play.

Halo Studios listed Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass as launch-day access options. That was a launch offering, not a guarantee of current availability: check the catalog for your region before relying on subscription access.
How co-op and account setup work
You can play the campaign solo or team up online or over a network with up to four players across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5. Console versions also support two-player split-screen. Progression is shared in co-op, and cross-platform play lets players on different supported systems form a fireteam.

- Link accounts if you use Steam or PlayStation. The game prompts players on those platforms to link their platform identity to a Microsoft account. Cross-platform invites use Gamertags.
- Invite your fireteam and agree on friendly fire. The fireteam leader chooses whether friendly fire is enabled, and that setting applies to the group.
When supported platforms are tied to the same Microsoft account, story checkpoints, collectibles, and customizations share across them. If achievements matter to you, check the details for your specific goal before enabling difficulty modifiers: having modifiers active for anyone in the fireteam can block more challenging achievements such as LASO, although some simpler achievements may still be earned.
What to know about Skulls and LASO
Skulls are unlockable modifiers that can change weapons, enemies, player attributes, or environmental effects. The game has 42 unlockable Skulls, but LASO does not require turning on all 42. Halo Studios says the LASO challenge uses a curated assortment because some modifiers contradict one another or undermine the intended challenge.

Is it supported on handheld PCs?
In its July 2026 community Q&A, Halo Studios reported that the game was Steam Deck Verified and Windows handhelds were Handheld Optimized. These are the official ratings reported at that time; check current device-support information after game updates.

The documented Xbox and PlayStation 5 Collector’s Editions included a physical game disc, SteelBook, 12-inch Master Chief statue, LED Cortana data-chip replica, three 11-by-17-inch concept-art prints, and a physical manual modeled on the original game manual. Halo Studios reported that the Collector’s Edition sold out on June 8, 2026. That notice does not establish current resale availability or price, so confirm the platform, seller, stock, and condition before buying from another retailer.
