To upgrade dbForge Studio, first identify your edition—MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL—then use that edition’s update instructions and revision history. Devart’s documented click-by-click upgrade procedure is for dbForge Studio for MySQL. After updating, test a saved connection using its own platform-specific endpoint and authentication settings, then open it in Database Explorer.
Identify your dbForge edition and the 2026.2 release
dbForge Studio is available in separate editions for MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL. Release changes and connection fields differ across them, so check the revision history for the product you actually use rather than assuming that every 2026.2 feature applies to every edition. Devart’s revision histories list build 2026.2.54, dated 22 September 2026. See Devart’s dbForge product information.
The 2026.2 notes include MySQL 26.7 and MariaDB 13 support for the MySQL edition. PostgreSQL’s notes list PostgreSQL 19 support, debugger functionality, and visual editors for functions, procedures, and event triggers. SQL Server and Oracle have their own changes and fixes. Confirm the relevant product’s notes before relying on a specific feature or server-version support.
Upgrade dbForge Studio for MySQL
The following in-app workflow is documented for dbForge Studio for MySQL; do not assume the other editions use identical updater labels or installer screens. Close other running Studio instances before starting, leaving only the instance being upgraded open.
#1 Best Overall
- In dbForge Studio for MySQL, select Help > Check for Updates.
- If an update is offered, download it and choose Update.
- Run the downloaded installer. On the installer’s Maintenance page, accept the default Upgrade option.
- Follow the installer wizard to completion, then finish the installation.
Devart also documents a manual route: download the newer version from Devart, run its installer, and follow the prompts. The MySQL guide describes this process; consult the specific edition’s documentation if you use SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or a bundle. Devart’s dbForge Studio for MySQL upgrade instructions.
Test a saved connection after the upgrade
Use the connection manager or Database Explorer to open the properties of a saved connection. Check that its endpoint, authentication method, login, and target database or service match the server you intend to use. Select Test Connection before relying on the connection. In Devart’s SQL Server connection guide, a success message indicates that the connection test succeeded; PostgreSQL documentation also describes a Test Connection step. SQL Server connection instructions.

- Open the saved connection’s properties, or create a new connection if needed.
- Verify the platform-specific endpoint and credentials described below.
- Select Test Connection and check the result.
- If the test succeeds, connect and open the database in Database Explorer.
Check the fields for your database platform
- MySQL: Check the host, port, user name and password, and database. The guide gives 3306 as the default port and describes TCP/IP and named-pipe connection types, with optional SSL or SSH settings.
- Oracle: Check the host, port, service name or SID, and credentials. The guide gives 1521 as the default port for a direct connection.
- PostgreSQL: Use the PostgreSQL connection settings and Test Connection workflow in that edition’s guide; do not substitute another platform’s fields or defaults.
- SQL Server: Check the server, credentials, and selected database. Its guide also describes optional timeout and encryption settings and custom port syntax.
The listed default ports are platform-specific documentation values, not guarantees that your server uses those ports. Optional security and connection settings should match your server configuration. MySQL connection instructions, Oracle connection instructions, and PostgreSQL connection instructions.
If the connection test fails
There is no single diagnosis that applies to every dbForge edition or server. Start by comparing the saved connection details with the intended server configuration, then check settings relevant to that platform.

- Check the authentication method and login details.
- Verify the port and connection type, including any named-pipe, SSL, SSH, encryption, or timeout setting that applies.
- After correcting a setting, run Test Connection again before opening the connection.
This is a practical check based on the documented connection fields, not a vendor-prescribed universal error-diagnosis sequence. A successful Studio upgrade by itself does not establish that a particular server connection is compatible or correctly configured.

For SQL Server, Devart’s management guide describes opening and closing saved connections in Database Explorer. It also explains how to edit connection properties and select Connect to save them. When you manage several editions or environments, compare the database platform, the edition-specific 2026.2 notes, the required endpoint and authentication fields, and any security or environment-identification settings. Test the actual configured connection rather than inferring compatibility from the Studio version alone.
