Use the Google Find Hub app on another Android device, or visit android.com/find in a browser. Sign in with the Google Account associated with the missing phone, select the device, then check its location and available actions. If it is offline, Find Hub may show a previously stored location or locate it through its network—but only if the required settings were enabled beforehand.

Find your phone now

  1. Open Find Hub. Use the Find Hub app on another Android phone or tablet, or visit android.com/find in a browser.
  2. Sign in to the associated Google Account. If you are using someone else’s Android device to help, Google says the phone’s owner can sign in through guest mode.
  3. Select the missing phone. Check that you chose the right device. Google notes that selecting it may send a notification to the phone.
  4. Check the map and available controls. If the phone is close, use Find nearby if offered. Google says it may be available when the phone is within 10 metres. You can also ring the phone if it is close enough to hear.
  5. Choose a security action if needed. Mark the phone as lost or use the available secure-device action if recovery is uncertain. Consider erasing it only after weighing the consequences described below.

What Find Hub can show when the phone is offline

A live location and remote security actions depend on the phone having power and a Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection, being signed in to a Google Account, having Find Hub turned on, and being visible on Google Play. If those conditions are not met, Find Hub may show no location or may display a recent stored location instead of a live position.

Offline finding depends on settings that were in place before the phone went missing. Google says Find Hub can use encrypted recent locations and a crowdsourced network that shares end-to-end encrypted location information. A screen lock—a PIN, pattern, or password—is required for the network to help locate a device.

What the offline settings mean

  • Off: Recent locations are not stored and the phone does not participate in the network.
  • Without network: Find Hub can use stored recent locations, but not the crowdsourced network.
  • Network finding: Depending on the selected setting, the network can help find devices in busy areas or everywhere.

Some supported phones, including the Pixel 8 series, may be located for several hours after they power off if the required network option was selected and Bluetooth and Location were on when the phone shut down. This behavior is not established for every Android phone.

How accurate is the location?

A map pin is an estimate, not a guarantee of the phone’s exact position. Google estimates GPS location at around 20 metres, but says GPS can be inaccurate indoors or underground. Nearby Wi-Fi networks can help estimate a position; mobile-tower location may be accurate only to a few thousand metres. These are Google’s general estimates, with no publication year stated on the source page. When Find nearby is available and the phone is within 10 metres, it may show a proximity indicator.

Pay attention to whether the result is live or a last stored location. If the phone is offline, the displayed location may describe where it was before losing its connection—not where it is now.

Mark it lost or erase it?

Marking the phone as lost or securing it is the less destructive choice when you still hope to recover it. Erasing is a last resort: Google says a factory reset permanently deletes device data, may not delete data on an SD card, and makes the phone’s location unavailable in Find Hub. If you recover an erased phone, you will need the Google Account password to use it again.

If Find Hub cannot find the phone

  • Confirm that you signed in to the Google Account associated with the missing phone and selected the correct device. Google says the most recent location is available to the first account activated on the device.
  • Check whether the phone appears in the device list. If it does not, the account or device setup may not meet the requirements for Find Hub.
  • Consider whether the phone is powered on and connected, and whether Find Hub and offline finding were configured before it went missing. An offline result may be stored rather than current.
  • Follow Google’s troubleshooting guidance for verification prompts and offline settings: Find, secure or erase a lost Android device.

Depending on the device, Find Hub may ask for the lock-screen PIN on Android 9 or later. On a phone without a PIN, or one running Android 8 or earlier, it may ask for the Google Account password. Google recommends setting up a two-step verification backup code in advance; a browser is another way to access Find Hub, but a verification step cannot always be bypassed.
