Check the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) rate page for a dated reference, confirm whether the figure applies to your transaction, then compare it with the current quote and fees from the bank or exchange provider you plan to use. On 7 October 2026, the public USD rate was reported as 1,520 Iraqi dinars (IQD) per US dollar; that is a dated official rate, not a guarantee of what a provider will pay.
Where to check the Iraqi dinar exchange rate
Use the Central Bank of Iraq’s exchange-rate information as an official starting point. The CBI page provides daily, monthly, annual, and historical USD/IQD information, as well as daily rates for major currencies and gold. Select the relevant date or history view rather than assuming a displayed value is current.
For a transaction, also ask the bank or exchange provider for its own current quote. Record the currency pair, direction, rate type, and quote time. A central-bank reference, a bank’s posted rate, and a market quote are different things and may not produce the same amount.
What is the exchange rate for Iraqi dinars today?
A rate is only “today’s” rate if its source and date support that description. The CBI circular, as reproduced by Nina News, was reported effective from the start of the workday on 7 October 2026. It set different USD/IQD rates for different transaction types:

These are transaction-specific official rates reported on 7 October 2026, not a promise that every bank, exchange shop, or market quote will match them. The Nina News report reproducing the CBI circular is the source for the figures.
For comparison, the National Bank of Iraq’s exchange-rate page showed 1,300–1,320 IQD per USD and said it was last updated 6 October 2026 at 15:15. That was a bank page’s pre-change listing, not the public rate reported effective on 7 October. AP reported market quotes above 1,600 IQD per USD before the official change and above 1,700 afterward; those are contemporaneous reported market observations, not official rates or continuing live quotes.

How do I convert Iraqi dinars to US dollars?
First check that the quote is expressed as IQD per USD. To estimate dollars from a dinar amount, divide the IQD amount by that rate:
USD amount = IQD amount ÷ IQD-per-USD rate
For example, using the reported public rate of 1,520 IQD per USD, 152,000 IQD ÷ 1,520 = $100 before any provider fee or difference in the transaction quote. This is a calculation from the dated reference rate, not a guaranteed payout.

Using the public rate reported effective on 7 October 2026, one US dollar corresponded to 1,520 IQD. To estimate dinars from a dollar amount, multiply the dollars by the IQD-per-USD rate:
IQD amount = USD amount × IQD-per-USD rate
At 1,520 IQD per USD, $100 × 1,520 = 152,000 IQD, before any separate fee. Keep the date and rate type attached to the result whenever you share or record it.

Why is the Iraqi dinar rate different at banks and exchange shops?
The rate can differ because a posted figure may be an official reference, a bank’s buy or sell rate, or a market quote—and those labels may describe different sides of a transaction. Timing matters too: an online page can lag behind a policy change. The reported 7 October 2026 circular distinguished between Finance Ministry transactions, bank sales, and sales to the public; AP also reported market quotes above the public official rate after the change.
Compare like with like: the same currency pair and transaction direction, the same kind of rate, and a similar quote time. If one source quotes USD per IQD and another quotes IQD per USD, they cannot be compared directly; invert one rate first. Ask the provider for the final amount delivered and any separate charges before exchanging.

Check the quote before you exchange
- Set the date and currencies. Open the CBI exchange-rate page and choose the applicable date or history view.
- Identify the rate type and direction. Confirm whose buy or sell rate is shown, and whether you are exchanging USD for IQD or IQD for USD.
- Calculate the estimate. Multiply USD by an IQD-per-USD rate to estimate dinars; divide IQD by that rate to estimate dollars.
- Get the provider’s live transaction quote. Ask when it was quoted, what rate applies to your transaction, and whether fees are charged separately.
- Compare the delivered amount. Use the provider’s final figure—not an old listing or an official reference alone—to decide whether to proceed.
