If a website stops working in Safari, try turning off content blocking for that site only. Reload the page and test the feature that failed. If it still does not work, turn blocking back on and check other common causes.

Turn off content blockers for one website on Mac

  1. Open the affected website in Safari.

  2. Click the Page menu in the Smart Search field and choose Website Settings.

  3. Turn off Enable content blockers for that site, then reload the page and test the broken feature. This setting applies to the active website.

If you do not see the control in the Page menu, use Safari’s settings instead: choose Safari > Settings > Websites > Content Blockers, find the affected site, and set its option to Off. Apple says Off means ads and other unwanted content are not blocked on that website. Apple’s Mac website settings guide describes this control.

The Websites panel may also show a default setting for sites without a custom option. Change the affected site’s entry rather than the default if only one website is failing.

Check extension controls on iPhone

  1. Open the affected website in Safari and tap the Page Menu button beside the search field.

  2. Tap Manage Extensions. If the relevant extension offers per-site controls, turn it off for this website.

  3. Reload the page and test the feature that failed.

Not every extension provides the same per-site options. To review an extension’s broader settings, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions, select the extension, and review Allow Extension. If you use Safari profiles, an extension may need to be enabled separately for each profile. See Apple’s iPhone guide to Safari extensions.

If the website still does not work

Restore the blocker if turning it off did not fix the problem. A content blocker is only one possible cause; Apple also points to extensions, website settings, and network or privacy features as potential sources of trouble. Work through these checks one at a time so you can identify what changes the result.

Apple notes that some sites require content blockers to be turned off or permission for a feature such as the camera, microphone, downloads, or pop-up windows. Its troubleshooting guide covers these and other checks: If Safari doesn’t work as expected on Mac.

Keep the exception as narrow as possible

If the site works with blocking disabled, keep the exception limited to that site rather than changing the default for all websites. The site-specific setting restores the behavior needed there without changing the setting for sites that do not have a custom rule. Apple’s instructions do not quantify how much protection is lost when blocking is disabled, so avoid assuming a specific risk level; use the exception only where it resolves the problem.

Menu labels can differ by installed operating-system version or language. Apple’s relevant guides are labeled for macOS 26 and iOS 27; look for the corresponding Website Settings, Websites, Content Blockers, or Manage Extensions controls if your labels differ.
