Microsoft’s October 7 Windows and Surface event had not produced a confirmed Windows 12 announcement in the information available at 10:24 a.m. PT. Microsoft’s event page said more updates would follow at 11 a.m. PT, so the event’s final announcements were still pending at that point.
Did Microsoft announce Windows 12 at today’s event?
Not in the information available by 10:24 a.m. PT on October 7, 2026. Microsoft’s official event page said, “Stay tuned here for more details, photos and other updates at 11 a.m. PT.” That update time was later than the cutoff, so the page did not establish whether Microsoft would make a Windows 12 announcement later in the event.
The event page was titled “Windows and Surface October 2026 news” and invited visitors to watch live. It linked to Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Surface Laptop Ultra, Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, Copilot, and Windows 11 apps; the available page content did not confirm Windows 12, a release date, or an upgrade.
What Microsoft had said about Windows 12 before the event
On March 3, 2025, Microsoft-identified representative Joe Lurie replied to a Windows 12 timing question in the Microsoft Tech Community: “Microsoft has never announced any plans to release a Windows 12. I’m not saying that we will never, ever release a new version of Windows, but today we have no plans.” That is a dated statement about Microsoft’s position at that time, not confirmation of what it would announce at the October 2026 event.

A July 31, 2026 answer on Microsoft Q&A likewise said Microsoft had not mentioned Windows 12 and was focused on improving Windows 11. That answer came from a volunteer moderator, so it should not be treated as a formal Microsoft roadmap announcement.
Why previews and Windows 12 rumors are not confirmation
Before the event, Windows Central’s October 6 preview described the event as covering Windows, Surface, and NVIDIA. It quoted Microsoft’s stream description: “Join us live October 7th at 10:00 am PT for a look at what’s next from Windows, Surface, and NVIDIA. See the latest, including RTX Spark and new experiences designed to unlock more possibilities for developers and builders.” The preview expected Surface Laptop Ultra and RTX Spark to be focuses; it did not establish a Windows 12 announcement.

Likewise, earlier claims that an AI-focused Windows 12 was likely to launch in 2026 should not be presented as fact. Windows Central later characterized that report as false and said PCWorld had retracted its article. A rumor, a preview, and an official product announcement are different kinds of evidence.

If you need to decide what operating system to use now, base that decision on Windows 11’s current official information rather than an unconfirmed Windows 12 date or feature list. The reviewed event material does not establish a Windows 12 license, upgrade media, or an announced product to install or buy.

For the event’s outcome, check Microsoft’s event page for updates posted after 11 a.m. PT on October 7, 2026. Until a later official announcement confirms otherwise, neither a Windows 12 launch date nor a Windows 12 release should be reported as announced at this event.
