This is a useful compatibility check, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or smooth performance.
1. Find the game’s requirements on Steam
Open the specific game’s Steam Store page and find its system requirements. Steam Support says, “The system requirements for all games are listed on the game’s Store page.” Steam Support’s performance guidance also explains that meeting those requirements alone does not guarantee high FPS or strong in-game performance.
Write down the minimum and recommended requirements separately. Include each item the listing specifies:
- Operating system and, if stated, its version or architecture
- Processor (CPU) model
- System memory (RAM)
- Graphics card (GPU) model and any stated video memory or graphics API requirement
- Storage space
- Other requirements, such as DirectX
Requirements can change, so use the current listing for the specific game you are considering rather than a general estimate for games of the same genre.

2. Check your Windows PC’s specifications
Processor, RAM, Windows version, and system type
In Windows, open Settings > System > About. Check the device specifications for the processor, installed RAM, and system type, and the Windows specifications for the installed edition and version. Microsoft’s guide to finding information about a Windows device covers these built-in details.
Graphics card and graphics details
For a quick view of your graphics hardware, open Task Manager > Performance > GPU. For additional system and display details, press Windows key + R, type dxdiag, and inspect the display information. Steam’s driver guidance describes using dxdiag to view basic system information.

Available storage
Check your free space in Windows storage settings or in File Explorer. Compare the available space with the game’s listed storage requirement; having enough total drive capacity is not enough if other files have used most of it.
3. Compare matching requirements
Compare each requirement against the corresponding PC detail, using the full model names rather than brand names or model numbers alone. A higher-looking number does not prove that a processor or graphics card from a different product family is faster or equivalent.

| Check | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Your Windows edition, version, and system type against the game’s stated OS requirement. |
| CPU | The complete processor model against the listed minimum and recommended processors. |
| RAM | Installed system memory against each tier’s stated memory amount. |
| GPU | The complete graphics-card model, plus any stated VRAM or graphics API constraint. |
| Storage | Free space available on your drive against the game’s storage requirement. |
Make two comparisons: your PC versus the minimum tier, and your PC versus the recommended tier. If you do not recognize a listed CPU or GPU, use a reliable benchmark comparison based on both complete model names; do not infer equivalence from the manufacturer or number alone.
4. Interpret the comparison realistically
Meeting a game’s minimum requirements suggests that it may run, often with constrained settings, but it does not specify a guaranteed frame rate. The recommended tier is a more cautious target for stronger performance, not a promise of a particular result. Steam explicitly warns that simply meeting requirements does not mean you will get high FPS or strong in-game performance.

- POWERHOUSE 8-CORE GAMING PERFORMANCE — Driven by the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F with 8 cores and 16 threads, boosting up to 5.0 GHz for smooth, responsive gameplay and the ability to handle AAA titles, streaming, and background tasks all at once
- NEXT-GEN BLACKWELL ARCHITECTURE — The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 is powered by NVIDIA's cutting-edge Blackwell GPU architecture, delivering a massive generational leap in rasterization and ray tracing performance so you can experience your games the way they were meant to be played.
- Simplistic Design: Enjoy the latest generation of Windows 11 Home for your everyday needs. *MSI recommends Windows 11 Pro for business use.
- Cool While Gaming: In conjunction with an ARGB fan Air Cooler, the Codex R2 features four system cooling fans; three in the front and one in the rear to pull in cool air and push heat out of the PC.
- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
A PC that is close to or below the minimum may have performance problems or fail to launch. Drivers, background applications, and available memory can also affect results. Steam notes that outdated graphics drivers can hurt performance even when the video hardware meets requirements, and that memory pressure and disk swapping can contribute to frame-rate hitches.
The listing does not provide a universal conversion from system requirements to FPS. Resolution, graphics settings, the rest of the PC, and the game’s behavior all matter, so requirements alone cannot establish whether a particular setup will deliver your desired experience.

5. Decide what to do if your PC is near the minimum
- Check the exact models: Verify the full CPU and GPU names and compare unfamiliar models using a reliable benchmark source.
- Check free space: Confirm that the drive has enough available storage for the listed requirement.
- Review drivers and background activity: Out-of-date graphics drivers or applications using system resources may undermine performance.
- Set a realistic target: Decide what resolution and settings you want. The requirements do not promise a specific FPS at that target.
- Get a configuration-specific assessment before spending: A useful recommendation needs the game’s current requirements plus your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, free storage, intended resolution, and desired settings.
If you share those details, a comparison can be made against the game’s actual listing. Without them, a blanket yes-or-no verdict or promised settings and frame rate would be unreliable.
