Yes, if you have an Oura Ring Gen3 or newer and want the full app experience. Oura Membership unlocks detailed insights and guidance; without it, you keep only three daily scores and a few basic app functions. Gen2 users do not need a membership. Oura includes one month with a new ring purchase, then lists US pricing at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
Which Oura rings require a membership?
Oura Membership is required for the full app experience with Gen3 and newer rings. Gen2 users are not charged a membership fee. Oura says it will continue routine Gen2 software and firmware updates for the foreseeable future, but hardware differences limit compatibility with newer features. If you upgrade from Gen2 to a newer ring, factor in the membership requirement.
The membership is attached to your Oura account, not the ring itself. If you pair a replacement or upgraded ring with the same account, the membership follows the account. Buying an additional ring on an existing account does not provide another complimentary month.
What does Oura Membership include?
Oura’s membership feature list spans sleep, health, activity and reporting. Feature access can depend on ring generation, phone platform, region and individual requirements.

Oura Member Care lists US membership pricing at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. A new member receives one included month with a ring purchase. That period begins when the ring is paired; the selected monthly or annual plan is billed afterward unless you cancel. Taxes may apply.

What can you use without membership?
On Gen3 and newer rings, the app retains Readiness, Activity and Sleep scores, ring battery, basic profile information, app settings and Explore content. Most detailed insights and personalized guidance are unavailable. The Oura API also requires membership, but you can still download personal data through the Membership Hub.

This means the ring does not become wholly unusable after membership ends, but the remaining app experience is limited to scores and basic functions rather than the detailed analysis package.
What happens when you cancel?
Canceling membership does not delete your Oura account or erase saved data. Oura says data remains saved under its privacy policy unless you delete the account. If you rejoin, access to that data is restored. You can export data in CSV format through the Membership Hub.

Canceling and deleting are separate actions: cancel the membership to stop the paid plan, and use the account-deletion process only if you intend to delete the account and its data.

The decision largely comes down to whether you use the detailed insights that membership unlocks. Compare your ring generation, the app features you rely on, your local monthly or annual price, and whether your preferred features are available for your region and device. If the three daily scores and basic functions are enough, you can cancel and retain those on Gen3 and newer; if you rely on detailed sleep, stress, health or reporting features, those require membership.

Membership is not a separate higher- and lower-feature tier: Oura describes monthly and annual billing for the same membership feature set. The physical ring is separate from that app access. For context, Oura Ring 4 is the hardware with sleep blood-oxygen sensing, heart rate and heart-rate variability, sleep respiration rate, temperature trends and movement tracking. Oura lists typical battery life as 5–8 days, with actual duration varying by size, settings, use and battery age. The ring set includes the ring, charging dock and USB cable; a power adapter is not included. Oura recommends its sizing kit because its sizing differs slightly from standard ring sizes.
