A neocloud may suit a workload centered on GPU compute, while AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud may fit better when your organization depends on the surrounding cloud services and tools. Choose by comparing the exact hardware, measured workload performance, total cost, available capacity, and operational fit—not by provider label or advertised GPU-hour price.
What is a neocloud?
A neocloud is a cloud provider built specifically for GPU compute and AI workloads, rather than general-purpose enterprise applications. Microsoft for Startups uses the term this way and names CoreWeave, Crusoe, Lambda, and Nebius as examples. Microsoft’s definition and examples are useful shorthand, but the label does not mean providers share the same prices, availability, service levels, or software experience.
NVIDIA also describes a wider ecosystem of cloud providers offering its accelerated-computing platform. Its cloud partner directory shows that multiple providers participate; it does not establish that their configurations or service terms are interchangeable.
How do neoclouds compare with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud?
The practical distinction is focus, not a guaranteed performance or price advantage. Neoclouds concentrate on GPU and AI workloads. A hyperscaler may be a stronger fit when the data, identity controls, applications, and operational workflows your team needs are already tied to that provider. Either option still needs to be evaluated against the specific workload and region.

| Option | What the available evidence establishes | What to evaluate for your workload |
|---|---|---|
| Neoclouds such as CoreWeave, Crusoe, Lambda, and Nebius | Microsoft for Startups identifies these as examples of providers focused on AI GPU compute. | Exact GPU and cluster configuration, regional capacity, pricing terms, support, and integration with your stack. |
| AWS | AWS publishes an accelerated-instance catalog with configuration details, and documents P5, P5e, and P5en GPU families. | Whether the required instance is orderable in your region, at your needed scale, and with the networking and storage your job requires. |
| Azure and Google Cloud | The sources linked here do not provide comparable current GPU SKU and pricing details for these providers. | Check each provider’s current GPU catalog, regional availability, quota, networking, billing, storage, and transfer charges before comparing. |
This is not a ranking: the cited information does not establish a matched independent benchmark across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, CoreWeave, and Nebius. Do not treat missing comparable details as evidence that a provider lacks a GPU offering or is a worse fit.
What should you compare before choosing?
1. Match the complete hardware configuration
Write down the requirements for the job before comparing instance names or GPU generations:

- Accelerator model, GPU count, and GPU memory.
- Interconnect and network topology, especially for distributed training.
- Host CPU and RAM, plus local and attached storage.
- Whether the workload runs on one node or spans multiple nodes.
A GPU model alone does not describe a usable configuration. AWS’s EC2 accelerated-instance specifications illustrate how GPU count, memory, networking, storage, and other capabilities vary across instances. AWS identifies P5 instances with NVIDIA H100 GPUs and P5e/P5en with H200 GPUs for deep learning and high-performance computing on its P5 product page. Confirm that the particular configuration you need is available where and when you need it.
2. Measure the work you actually run
Use a representative workload and agree on the success measure in advance. For training, compare time to train or useful tokens per second at the intended cluster size. For inference, compare throughput at the same latency and model-quality targets.

Keep the comparison controlled: record the model, framework, precision, batch size, software stack, and network topology. NVIDIA’s Exemplar Cloud initiative uses standardized recipes for cloud-provider AI performance benchmarking. That is a useful benchmarking principle, not proof that every provider has comparable published results.
3. Calculate total cost for the full job
Compare the bill for the workload’s full lifecycle, not just a headline GPU-hour rate. Include the billing mode and run duration, CPU and memory, storage, data transfer or egress, idle time, support, orchestration, and any commitment. A lower accelerator rate can be offset by time spent waiting, transferring data, or paying for resources that are not doing useful work.

Public pricing pages are time-sensitive and may list different billing options. Nebius’s GPU pricing page identifies its GPU-hour rates as effective October 1, 2026. CoreWeave’s pricing page lists both on-demand and spot entries. Compare the same GPU, instance, region, duration, and billing option, and recheck rates when making a decision; these pages do not support an evergreen claim that one provider is cheapest.
4. Confirm capacity, region, and quota
Ask the provider to confirm that the exact SKU is orderable in the required region, that your account can obtain sufficient quota, and that the provider can sustain your target cluster size on your schedule. A product page or historical launch announcement is not confirmation of live capacity. For example, NVIDIA’s announcement that CoreWeave launched GB200 NVL72-based instances records a launch claim at that time; it does not establish current availability in a particular region. 5. Check integration and day-to-day operations
Map the path from your data to training or inference, including identity and access controls, security and compliance requirements, observability, schedulers, support, and exit or migration effort. Existing cloud services and organizational workflows can make a hyperscaler more practical; a GPU-focused provider may be a better fit for a team prioritizing dedicated AI compute. Validate those requirements with the provider rather than assuming what its category includes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do AWS’s P5 claims tell you—and what don’t they?
AWS says P5 instances can provide “up to 4x the performance of previous-generation GPU-based EC2 instances” and “reduce cost to train ML models by up to 40%.” These are AWS’s vendor claims on its P5 page, not an independent comparison with neoclouds, Azure, or Google Cloud. The claims alone cannot predict performance or cost for your model, software, configuration, and job duration.
AWS also documents Deep Learning AMIs, which let users launch GPU-accelerated instances with required software preconfigured. That may be relevant if setup workflow matters to your team, but it does not establish a better end-to-end experience than another provider.
How to run a fair provider comparison
- Define the job. Specify model, framework, precision, workload size, target latency or training time, and whether it is single-node or distributed.
- Request equivalent configurations. Ask each provider for the GPU count and memory, CPU and RAM, storage, interconnect, topology, region, and cluster size that meet the job’s requirements.
- Verify access before benchmarking. Confirm regional orderability, quota, expected capacity, billing options, and support for the intended run window.
- Run the same representative workload. Hold the software and workload settings constant where possible, and record the configuration and useful output—not only peak theoretical performance.
- Build a full-cost estimate. Include compute, supporting resources, storage, transfer, idle time, support, orchestration, and commitments for the same job duration.
- Assess operational fit. Evaluate security, identity, observability, scheduling, integration, and the cost or effort of moving data and workloads in or out.
The best choice is the provider that can deliver the required configuration and measured result, at an acceptable full-job cost, with capacity and operations your team can rely on.
