To check an AirPods battery on iPhone or iPad, open the case or take out the AirPods, then go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the Info button beside the AirPods, and view their charge. On Mac, open the case or take out the AirPods, then choose Control Center > Sound > AirPods. To look for missing AirPods, open Find My > Devices, select them, and use the map, Play Sound, or nearby directions if available.
How do I check my AirPods battery?
The exact charge percentage is easiest to see on a paired Apple device. The case status light gives only a broad indication, and what it reports depends on whether the earbuds are inside.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the AirPods case, or remove the AirPods from it.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the Info button beside your AirPods’ name and check the charge information.
Apple says iPhone and iPad can show low-battery notifications at 20%, 10%, and 5%. The AirPods also play a tone at 10% and again shortly before they turn off. Apple’s battery and charging instructions explain these indicators.
On Mac
- Open the case or remove the AirPods, and hold them near your Mac.
- Open Control Center from the menu bar.
- Select Sound, then choose your AirPods to view their charge.
Using the case status light
When the case lid opens with the AirPods inside, the light indicates the AirPods’ charge. With the earbuds removed, it indicates the case charge. Green means fully charged; amber means less than one full charge remains. If no light appears, the AirPods may need charging. This is a status signal, not a precise percentage.

How do I find a lost AirPod?
On an iPhone, iPad, or another supported Apple device signed in to the Apple Account associated with the AirPods, open Find My > Devices and select the AirPods. If prompted because they are separated, choose the left or right AirPod you want to find.
- Check the map for the current or last known location.
- If Find Nearby is offered, follow its on-screen directions. Otherwise, try Play Sound when the AirPod can connect.
- If the AirPods remain missing and the model supports it, turn on Lost Mode and add contact information.
Available actions depend on the AirPods model and the Apple device you are using. Apple’s guide to finding AirPods describes current model and feature differences.

Can I find just one AirPod?
Yes, but how Find My displays separated AirPods depends on the model. For most models, Find My shows only one AirPod’s location at a time: find that one, put it in its case, then refresh to look for the other. Apple’s current guide says AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3 can show each AirPod and the case on the map.
Nearby precision, a sound from the case, and separate lost marking also vary by model. Apple says AirPods Pro 2 and Pro 3 can provide direction and distance for nearby finding with a UWB-capable iPhone. Check the guide for your model rather than assuming every option is available.

Can I find my AirPods if they’re offline?
Find My may show a last known location, Offline, or No location found when AirPods are out of range or need charge. A sound or nearby directions may not work until they reconnect. Apple says a paired device can receive a notification if the AirPods come online again.
For supported models, Apple’s current AirPods User Guide for iOS 27 and later says Find My network location can remain available for up to 24 hours after the AirPods last connected. That is not a promise of a live location throughout that period: what you see can still be the last known position. The guide lists AirPods 3, AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max for this capability. Find My network availability can also vary by country or region.

What must be set up before AirPods go missing?
- The AirPods must have been paired with an iPhone or iPad signed in to the Apple Account you use to view them.
- Find My must have been turned on before the AirPods were lost.
- Offline location and Lost Mode require the Find My network to have been enabled in advance.
If those settings were not enabled beforehand, Find My may not be able to locate the AirPods or offer Lost Mode after they are lost.

Apple says a missing AirPod or charging case can be replaced. Identify the exact AirPods model before choosing a replacement so the earbud or case matches your set. If you need to charge the case, check its input first: Apple says cases charge by cable, using Lightning or USB-C depending on the case, while wireless charging is available only on supported case models. Apple’s AirPods service and repair page provides support options.
