On PS5 Pro, there are two separate image-quality options: Enhance PSSR Image Quality for compatible PS5 games, which Sony says is on by default, and Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games, which you must turn on yourself. Both depend on game compatibility; the PS4 option also requires a supported display.

Check the PSSR setting for compatible PS5 games

Sony says Enhance PSSR Image Quality is enabled by default on PS5 Pro. To check its status or switch it off, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. The setting is available on CFI-7000 model-group consoles and applies to certain PS5 games that support PSSR, not every PS5 game. Sony’s resolution settings guide explains the setting and menu path.

Updated PSSR support is being rolled out to selected games. Sony’s March 16, 2026 announcement names titles including Silent Hill f, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Crimson Desert; its feature page lists additional supported titles, including Control, Alan Wake 2, and Cyberpunk 2077. The supported list can change, so check PlayStation’s current PS5 Pro feature page and the game’s own information. The option does not guarantee the same visible improvement, resolution, or frame rate in every title.

Turn on image enhancement for PS4 games

For supported PS4 titles, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and select Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games. Unlike the PSSR option, this is an opt-in setting. Sony says it is available on CFI-7000 model-group consoles and requires a display that supports 2160p or 1440p at 60 Hz. If gameplay behaves unexpectedly after enabling it, turn it off. See PlayStation Support’s PS4 game enhancement instructions.

Check your display before changing hardware

You do not generally need to buy a new display to enable these console options. The specific 2160p or 1440p at 60 Hz requirement applies to the PS4-game enhancement option. Separately, Sony says compatible games can reach 4K output and up to 120 fps with a 4K TV, but the actual mode depends on the display and the individual game. Check your existing screen’s resolution and refresh-rate support, along with the game’s supported modes, before considering an upgrade. Sony’s PS5 Pro feature information describes these capabilities and supported titles.
