Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can let selected people call through Do Not Disturb without silencing every other caller. On iPhone, set allowed people or call groups in Focus; for a contact who needs a stronger, contact-specific exception, turn on Emergency Bypass. On Android, set allowed callers in the active mode’s People filter. Both platforms also offer a repeat-call option.
Choose the right kind of exception
Use an allowed-people list when certain people should be able to reach you whenever a particular Focus or mode is active. A repeat-call setting is narrower: it can let a second call through if the same person calls again within a short window. On iPhone, Emergency Bypass is set on an individual contact and can allow that contact’s ringtone or text tone to sound when silencing is active.
These are built-in phone settings. A repeat-call exception is a convenience, not a guarantee that every emergency call will be delivered or noticed; phone service, device state, and other settings can affect what happens.
Allow calls from certain people on iPhone
- Open Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb.
- Tap People or Choose People, depending on the interface shown.
- Select Allow Notifications From, then add the people you want to reach you.
- Review the call options on that screen, including options for calls from selected groups and Allow Repeated Calls.
Apple describes the Focus controls in its guide to allowing or silencing notifications for a Focus on iPhone. Focus settings apply to the selected Focus profile, so configure Do Not Disturb rather than another Focus if that is the mode you intend to use.

Allow repeat callers on iPhone
When Allow Repeated Calls is on, Apple says two or more calls from the same person within three minutes may get through. This can help if someone who is not on your allowed-people list tries again, but it does not broadly allow that person’s first call.
Use Emergency Bypass for an individual contact
- Open Contacts and select the person.
- Tap Edit, then Ringtone.
- Turn on Emergency Bypass and save the change.
Apple also provides an Emergency Bypass control under that contact’s Text Tone settings for messages. Ringtone and Text Tone are separate controls, so enable the one that matches how you need to be reached. Apple says emergency contacts can make sounds and vibrations when notifications are silenced, and also points to Emergency Bypass or Medical ID emergency-contact setup.

Allow calls from certain people on Android
- Open the phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Modes and choose the active mode, such as Do Not Disturb.
- Open Notification filters > People.
- Choose which calls, messages, or conversations the mode should allow or block.
Google’s general Android instructions are in Limit interruptions with modes and Do Not Disturb on Android. If you do not see Modes, an older Android version may show Do Not Disturb preferences under Sound. Menu names and locations vary by phone maker and software version, so check your manufacturer’s instructions if the paths do not match your screen.
Allow repeat callers on Android
In the active mode’s People filter, turn on Allow repeat callers if you want a repeated call to be an exception. Google describes this as allowing a call when the same person calls twice within 15 minutes. It is separate from choosing people whose calls are allowed generally.
