To reduce the risk of Gemini calling or messaging the wrong person, check the contact details and permissions it can use, disconnect Phone, Messages, or WhatsApp in Connected Apps if you do not want Gemini to use them, and turn off calls and messages on the lock screen. To limit exposure of private information, review which apps are connected and avoid sending confidential details through Gemini. These are separate controls: turning off Gemini Apps Activity does not by itself disable Android communication apps.
How do I stop Gemini from calling the wrong person?
Google says Gemini may use contact information, calling and messaging logs, device information and settings, and available activity to choose an app and help connect you with the right person. That describes intended use, not a guarantee that Gemini will always identify the intended recipient. Google does not publish a quantified wrong-recipient rate or promise error-free matching. You can reduce ambiguity by checking the information Gemini can draw on and, if needed, removing its access to communication apps.
Check contact details and permissions
- Review contact information from your devices: Open Gemini on Android, then go to Menu → profile picture or initial → Settings → Contact info from your devices. Review the Save contact info from your signed-in devices setting. Google says it can make contacts on signed-in devices easier to interact with across Google services. Menu names and steps may vary by device and Android version. Google’s Android calling guide describes this setting.
- Check for ambiguous contacts: Review your device’s contact entries for duplicate names, outdated numbers, or other details that could make two people difficult to distinguish.
- Review relevant app permissions: Google’s calling instructions identify the Google app’s Phone permission as necessary for calling. Contacts permission can allow calling device contacts that are not synced to your Google Account, while Call Logs permission can help Gemini connect with the right person. Check Android’s app permissions if you want to restrict these inputs; the exact settings path varies by phone.
Disconnect apps Gemini should not use
If you do not want Gemini making calls or messages through a particular connected app, open Gemini’s Settings & help → Connected Apps, find Phone, Messages, or WhatsApp, and turn off that integration. This prevents Gemini from using the disconnected app, but it does not remove activity data that Gemini may already have saved. Google says Connected Apps availability can vary by device, country, language, account type, and Gemini app. See Google’s Connected Apps instructions.
How do I stop Gemini from sharing private information?
Start by limiting which communication apps Gemini can access: disconnect any connected app you do not want it to use. Also avoid sending confidential information in requests or messages created with Gemini. Google says messages created and sent with the Gemini app are not end-to-end encrypted by Google. That statement concerns messages sent with Gemini; it should not be read as a claim about every Android message or every connected app.

Google also says a subset of Connected Apps data may be reviewed by trained human reviewers. Its documentation says it takes steps such as disconnecting interactions from accounts and reducing personal information before review, with exceptions including abuse or harm cases; feedback can also result in review. Google advises against connecting apps containing confidential information you would not want a reviewer to see. These measures do not mean that sensitive content is risk-free, so use the app-disconnection controls and do not submit information you need to keep confidential. How do I block calls and messages while my phone is locked?
On Android, open Gemini and go to Menu → profile picture or initial → Settings → Gemini on lock screen. Turn off Allow calls and messages without unlocking. Google documents a separate Use Gemini without unlocking option for general questions. If your concern is communication actions, check the calls-and-messages switch directly rather than assuming the general lock-screen setting covers it. See Google’s Android calling guide.

What does Keep Activity control—and what does it not control?
Keep Activity controls whether Gemini Apps Activity is saved and, when the setting is on, whether that activity is used to improve Google services. It is not a kill switch for Android Phone, Messages, or WhatsApp integrations: Google says those communication apps can remain available on Android even when Keep Activity is off. Disconnect apps separately in Connected Apps if you do not want Gemini to use them.
Disconnecting an app, or deleting information in that app, does not itself remove data already in Gemini Apps Activity. If you want to remove saved Gemini activity, review and delete it separately in Gemini Apps Activity. Google’s Privacy Hub, last updated September 24, 2026, also says that saved Google Assistant communications-request history may be imported into Gemini Apps Activity for up to 90 days in some cases; this is a possible maximum window, not a claim that every user has such history imported.
