To install RenoDX Generic, first install ReShade 6.8.0 or newer with full add-on support for the game, then place that game’s matching RenoDX .addon64 or .addon32 file beside ReShade’s files in the game folder. Launch the game and press Home to open ReShade and access RenoDX settings. This is the common setup; check the specific game’s current RenoDX listing before downloading because compatibility and extra instructions vary by title.
Check the game’s RenoDX listing first
RenoDX is an open-source framework that modifies DirectX game rendering through ReShade add-ons. Its project describes capabilities including HDR output, shader replacement, resource upgrades, overlays, and persistent graphics settings. The framework is designed for game-specific rendering behavior, so “Generic” does not mean every game is supported or works the same way. RenoDX project website
Before installing, find the intended game in the official RenoDX Mods list. The list distinguishes entries marked working or playable from those in progress, and individual mod pages may give special installation directions. The page’s metadata says it was last modified on 30 September 2026; check the live entry for the current status and notes.
If downloads are offered through multiple routes, the Mods list says Snapshot builds may be newer than their Nexus counterparts but can be less stable. Choose based on the specific game and the build notes rather than assuming one route is always preferable.

Install RenoDX Generic through ReShade
- Install ReShade for the game. Use ReShade 6.8.0 or newer, with full add-on support enabled, and select the executable for the game you intend to modify. The installer usually finds the executable; if it does not, browse to it manually. For an Xbox installation, the RenoDX instructions specify
gamelaunchhelper.exe. - Download the game’s RenoDX add-on. Use a download route shown on that game’s RenoDX listing, such as Snapshot, Nexus, or Discord. Read the individual mod page for any title-specific steps before proceeding.
- Copy the add-on into the ReShade game folder. Place the architecture-matched
.addon64or.addon32file in the game folder where ReShade is installed. The file belongs alongside that game’s ReShade installation, not merely in the folder where your browser saved the download. - Open the game and ReShade menu. Start the game and press Home. RenoDX controls are available from the ReShade menu. You do not need to install a ReShade shader pack for the basic RenoDX add-on setup.
Configure RenoDX and address washed-out output
Use the RenoDX controls in ReShade to adjust the options provided by the add-on for that game. The available settings and any recommended configuration can differ by title, so follow the individual mod page rather than applying instructions meant for another entry.
If the image looks washed out, the RenoDX Mods page advises disabling Auto HDR and RTX HDR to avoid double tone mapping. Treat this as a symptom-specific adjustment, not a universal requirement to turn those features off.

Keep game-specific instructions separate
RenoDX’s shared setup is only a baseline. For example, Unreal Engine Extended is a separate multi-game mod entry with additional HDR-path and upgrade-path settings, game-specific notes, and troubleshooting. Do not apply those directions to RenoDX Generic unless the listing for your particular mod and game calls for them.
For developers building RenoDX rather than players installing a prebuilt add-on, the project’s contribution documentation covers development setup and confirms the ReShade Add-on API requirement. Its build tools and CLI commands are not needed for the ordinary player installation described above.
