A separate March 18, 2026 outage was brief, with no cause reported by Reuters. On March 10, 2025, Elon Musk blamed a cyberattack, but who was responsible was not established. If you mean a different outage, its date matters.
Is X down right now?
This article covers reported incidents on June 22, 2026, March 18, 2026, and March 10, 2025; it does not verify X’s live status. To check a current problem, compare your experience with an independent outage tracker. A surge in user reports can indicate a broader disruption, while a lack of reports may point toward an issue isolated to your connection or device. Tracker reports are a signal, not a count of everyone affected.
If X is failing only for you, try opening it on another device or network and check whether other sites work. If multiple people are reporting problems at the same time, a service-side outage becomes more plausible. Neither check reveals X’s internal root cause.
What caused the June 22, 2026 X outage?
Forbes reported that X attributed the June 22 outage to software issues. The report did not identify the software component or provide a technical postmortem, so the underlying failure remains unclear. Forbes also reported that Cloudflare had separate service problems that were not connected to the X disruption; the two incidents should not be treated as one outage.

Forbes said Downdetector received nearly 36,000 outage reports in roughly half an hour. That figure represents submitted reports, not a verified count of affected users.
What happened during the March 18, 2026 outage?
Reuters reported that X recovered after a brief disruption on March 18. Downdetector recorded more than 34,500 reports at the peak, but Reuters cautioned that user-submitted tracker data may differ from the actual number of people affected. Reuters did not report a confirmed cause for this incident; the software explanation for the June outage should not be applied to it.

Was the March 10, 2025 X outage caused by a cyberattack?
Reuters reported that Musk characterized the March 10 outage as a powerful cyberattack. He said, “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.” That was Musk’s claim, not independent proof of who carried out an attack.
Reuters also cited an internet-infrastructure industry source describing waves of denial-of-service traffic. Its reporting disputed Musk’s geographic claim and noted that IP addresses do not reliably identify the people or organization behind an attack. The public reporting did not settle responsibility or attribution.

Downdetector recorded 39,021 U.S. reports of problems at the peak around 10 a.m. ET, according to Reuters. This is a tracker count, not a verified total of affected users.

- Check for a broader pattern: Look at an independent outage tracker and see whether reports are rising around the same time as your issue.
- Compare networks: Try X on a different connection, such as mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. If it works on one but not the other, the issue may be local to a network or connection.
- Compare devices or access methods: If X fails on multiple devices and networks while reports are increasing, a wider service disruption is more likely.
- Use judgment about evidence: Tracker activity can help establish that other people are reporting trouble, but it cannot confirm X’s technical cause or give an exact affected-user total.
If you depend on X for publishing or customer support, keep an independent communication or status channel available. A service’s own platform may not be a dependable way to communicate during an outage of that platform.
