The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro is the higher-tier chip on paper: it uses Arm C2-series CPU cores and lists newer graphics, memory, and storage technologies. The Dimensity 9600M uses Arm C1-series cores and is positioned by MediaTek as a way to bring flagship experiences to more users. But the 9600M lists a higher maximum camera-sensor resolution, and neither chip’s specifications alone predict how a finished phone will perform.
How the Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M compare
MediaTek’s official specifications show differences in CPU, graphics, memory, storage, AI processing, camera features, and Bluetooth. Both platforms list Wi-Fi 7, WQHD+ displays at up to 180 Hz, tri-port MIPI for tri-fold displays, and 8K60 video capture.

These are platform specifications published by MediaTek for the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M. A listed maximum or supported feature does not mean every phone maker will implement it.
What the differences mean
CPU and graphics: the Pro is the stronger paper specification
The Pro’s C2-series cores are a newer CPU family than the M’s C1-series cores, and the Pro lists the Mali-G2 Ultra NX rather than the M’s Mali-G1 Ultra MC12. MediaTek’s 2026 Pro specifications claim 17% faster single-core CPU performance, 15% faster multi-core CPU performance and 61% greater multi-core power efficiency versus the previous generation. MediaTek also claims 27% greater GPU peak performance and 24% better power efficiency at peak performance. Those are vendor comparisons against the previous generation, not direct Pro-versus-M test results.

Memory and storage: newer options belong to the Pro
The Pro lists LPDDR6 support as well as LPDDR5X, and UFS 5.0 storage support. The 9600M lists LPDDR5X and four-lane UFS 4.1. Actual phones may use different memory and storage configurations, so the chipset specification does not tell you the capacity or speed of a particular handset.
Camera support: the M has the higher stated sensor maximum
MediaTek lists support for camera sensors up to 200 MP on the Pro and up to 320 MP on the 9600M. That maximum does not establish which chip takes better photos: image quality depends on the phone’s sensor, lenses, processing, software, and implementation. The video features also differ: both list 8K60 capture, while the Pro lists 4K240 slow motion and the M lists 4K120 with electronic image stabilization (EIS).

AI and connectivity
The Pro lists NPU 1090 and Super Efficient NPU 2.0; the M lists NPU 990 and a separate efficient NPU with Compute-in-Memory architecture. Both list Wi-Fi 7, the same stated WQHD+ 180 Hz display support, and tri-port MIPI for tri-fold displays. The Pro lists Bluetooth 6.2, while the M lists Bluetooth 6.0 with a dual Bluetooth engine.
What “9600M” means—and what it does not
MediaTek’s September 15, 2026 launch announcement presents the M as “Bringing Flagship Experiences to More Users.” Its product page describes the chip as built with Dimensity 9600 Pro platform technologies. That indicates shared platform technologies, not identical silicon or a guarantee of equal performance. MediaTek positions the M as a broader-access flagship option; it is not simply another name for the Pro.

MediaTek’s performance claims in context
MediaTek lists gaming performance of up to 185+ FPS for the Pro and up to 185 FPS for the 9600M. These are manufacturer claims, not controlled tests of retail phones. A handset’s actual frame rate depends on the game, settings, cooling, software, and how long the phone can sustain performance. The published figures should not be treated as proof that the Pro will be faster in every game or device.

If you are comparing platforms alone, the Pro has the more advanced listed CPU, GPU, memory, and storage support. The 9600M shares several high-end platform features and has a higher stated camera-sensor maximum. Which one makes a better phone depends on the handset built around it.

MediaTek’s September 15, 2026 announcement said the first smartphones powered by these chips were expected to launch during that quarter, but it did not identify handset models. The cited materials do not establish specific models, regional configurations, retail availability, or prices. Before choosing a phone, confirm its chipset and compare the finished devices on sustained performance and thermals, battery life, memory and storage configuration, camera hardware and processing, display, price, and availability in your region.
