If your PS5 controller moves a character or cursor when you are not touching the stick, first check whether the input is genuinely drifting, then reset and update the controller. PlayStation does not document a stick-calibration menu for the standard DualSense. DualSense Edge owners can adjust stick sensitivity and deadzones, while persistent drift on a standard DualSense may require hardware repair.
Check whether the stick is drifting
Start with the symptom: does the character or cursor move while the stick is untouched? If it happens in only one game, test another game or the PS5 menu and review that game’s control settings. A game-specific setting or issue can resemble controller drift.
For a direct check on a computer, PS Clinic offers a browser-based controller tester that can show stick input at rest and as you move the stick. It supports DualSense but requires a desktop browser with WebHID support, such as Chrome or Edge on a PC or Mac; phones and tablets are not supported. The tester is an independent diagnostic tool, not an official PlayStation utility, and its readings do not establish a universal numeric threshold for drift.
Reset and reconnect the DualSense
PlayStation recommends resetting the controller when it has problems. The reset clears the controller’s connection state; it is a troubleshooting step, not a stick calibration.

Update controller software
PlayStation says DualSense device software updates are included with PS5 system software updates. To check for a controller update manually on PS5, go to Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. You can also update the controller using PlayStation Accessories on a Windows PC. Menu labels can change; consult PlayStation Controllers Support if the path differs on your console.

Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
What calibration and deadzone settings can—and cannot—do
Standard DualSense
PlayStation’s published support instructions cover resetting, reconnecting, and updating a standard DualSense; they do not document a user-facing stick-calibration setting for it. A third-party calibration page should not be mistaken for an official PS5 setting or a guaranteed repair.
DualSense Edge
For a DualSense Edge, PlayStation documents stick sensitivity and deadzone controls for custom profiles. On PS5, open Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > Custom Profiles > Stick Sensitivity/Deadzone. A larger deadzone can ignore small readings near the stick’s center and reduce their effect in a game. It changes how input is interpreted; it does not restore worn parts. See PlayStation Controllers Support for the documented Edge controls.

Third-party calibration utilities
PS Clinic provides a WebHID tester and calibration controls for supported controllers. Its page identifies version 2.32, dated 2026-08-27, and explicitly warns that its calibration utility cannot fix stick drift. It says calibration without replacing worn sticks may help temporarily or make the problem worse, with no way to undo the change. Treat it as an optional advanced diagnostic or post-repair tool—not a first-line fix. Do not change calibration settings unless you understand the risk and have a reason to do so.

Persistent unwanted input after reset and software updates makes a hardware problem more likely, but those steps alone cannot diagnose a specific controller. Joystick resistive tracks can wear; replacing the joystick is the remedy for worn tracks described in iFixit’s PS5 Controller Stick Drift troubleshooting guide. Replacing the joystick in a standard DualSense is a difficult repair that requires soldering. If you lack suitable repair experience, check eligibility with PlayStation Repairs or consult a qualified repair provider before opening the controller.
