Complete the initial setup
Turn on the phone and follow its setup prompts to connect to a network, sign in to accounts, and choose device preferences. Samsung’s setup guide includes the option to start a Smart Switch transfer during setup, though the screens shown and choices offered depend on the device and software version. Transfer selected data with Smart Switch
You can transfer data wirelessly or use a wired connection. Samsung’s setup instructions describe connecting the phones with a USB-C cable. A compatible charging cable you already own may work, so a new cable is not automatically required. Choose what to transfer and approve the connection on the old phone when prompted.

Smart Switch settings include an authentication-code option for file transfers. For transfers involving an SD card or USB flash drive, Samsung also documents password or Samsung-account protection options for external-storage and Secure Folder encryption. Install available software updates
After setup, check for updates and follow the instructions shown by the phone. Samsung’s update guidance covers wireless updates and updates through Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac. Review Auto Blocker and its trade-offs
What Auto Blocker does
On supported software, the documented route is Settings → Security and privacy → Auto Blocker. Samsung says the feature can help block app installs from unauthorized sources, commands sent over a USB cable, and suspected malicious images in messaging apps. Samsung recommends downloading apps from the Play Store or Galaxy Store, keeping the phone’s software current, and using Auto Blocker. Its US support guidance states: “Avoid using anti-malware apps. Decide whether to enable Maximum restrictions
Maximum restrictions adds limits that may interfere with everyday or managed-device use. Samsung documents that it can block device-admin apps and work profiles, limit messaging previews and shared albums, remove location data from shared pictures, and block 2G. If 2G is the only network available where you use the phone, blocking it can disrupt calls, texts, and mobile data. Consider those effects before enabling the mode. Samsung Auto Blocker guidance

Enable lost-device recovery
Samsung’s security guidance describes both Samsung and Google find-device routes. Enable the available option on your Galaxy and check that you can recover access to the account it uses while you still have the phone. Secure Folder may not be available on every Galaxy. If it is present and you want a separate protected space for files or apps, open it and configure its lock method. Samsung’s current US guidance says creating new Secure Folder backups is no longer supported, while older backups can be restored and Secure Folder data can be transferred with Smart Switch.
