Sign in to Google, set a screen lock, and optionally add a Samsung account. Cellular models may show extra SIM or eSIM steps.
Before you turn on the tablet
- Charge it: Connect the tablet to power through its USB-C port before you begin.
- Check the connectivity model: Wi-Fi-only and cellular versions can have different setup prompts. On a cellular model, you may need to insert a physical SIM first; eSIM activation may be offered during setup or completed later. Ask your carrier about activation requirements.
- Decide whether you need extra storage: A microSD card is optional, so you can insert one now or add it later. Samsung lists support for cards up to 2TB; cards are sold separately. See Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S10 FE product page for specifications.
Complete the first-run setup
- Power on: Hold the Side button until the tablet turns on.
- Choose a language: At the Welcome screen, select your preferred language and tap Start.
- Review the agreements: Read the displayed terms, privacy policy, and diagnostic-data choices. Wording and available options can vary from Samsung’s support instructions and by device software.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Choose a trusted network and enter its password. If the network is hidden, add it manually. Cellular models may also show SIM or eSIM prompts; follow your carrier’s activation directions.
- Choose a transfer option: Select an Android/Galaxy device, iPhone/iPad, or the option to continue without copying data. Details on choosing a transfer method are below.
- Sign in to Google: Sign in to an existing Google account or create one. Google account access enables the Play Store and other Android features.
- Set a screen lock: Choose a standard lock method, such as a PIN, password, or pattern. If you enable biometric unlocking, you still need a standard lock method as a backup.
- Decide about a Samsung account: You can sign in or create one for Samsung services, syncing with other Galaxy devices, and location features. This is separate from your Google account.
- Choose a display mode: Select Light or Dark mode, then follow any remaining prompts to reach the Home screen.
Should you transfer data or start fresh?
Choose the transfer route based on your old device, what you want to bring over, and whether you have a suitable cable or computer. Samsung’s tablet setup guide describes Smart Switch and transfer prompts for Android/Galaxy and iPhone/iPad devices.
| Choice | When it makes sense | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Android or Galaxy transfer | You want to move eligible content and settings from an existing Android device. | Smart Switch offers transfer options that can include wireless, wired, or computer-backup approaches. The options shown depend on the devices and software involved. |
| iPhone or iPad transfer | You are moving from Apple hardware and want to bring over eligible data. | Samsung’s iPhone-to-Galaxy Smart Switch guide describes wired, wireless, and PC/Mac routes. Its 2019 instructions may not match current screens; wireless transfer may bring over less content and fewer settings than wired transfer. |
| Start fresh | You prefer a clean setup or do not need to restore from another device. | Continue without copying, then install the apps and configure the settings you want. |
Do not expect an exact clone of an iPhone: apps may need to be installed separately, and Apple app purchases do not simply become Android purchases. Review Smart Switch’s transfer summary when it finishes so you can see what was brought over. If a transfer stalls, Samsung recommends clearing Smart Switch’s cache, checking system requirements, freeing storage, and keeping the app current.

What to do after setup
- Check storage needs: Samsung lists the Tab S10 FE display as 10.9 inches diagonally in the full rectangle, or 10.8 inches accounting for rounded corners. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. If you want more storage, choose a microSD card according to your needs; support is listed up to 2TB, and cards are sold separately. Samsung’s product page has the full specifications.
- Verify what came in your box: Samsung presents S Pen support with the product, but check the package contents for your regional SKU. Do not assume accessories are identical across markets.
- Consider a keyboard only if useful: Samsung Book Cover Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim are sold separately. Availability and layout can vary by country, language, and model, so confirm compatibility for your tablet and region before buying.
