What multiplayer modes are in Gears of War: E-Day?
The game’s multiplayer includes Horde Siege for cooperative PvE, Versus for competitive PvP, and two practice options: Boot Camp and Combat Training. The Coalition describes four core Versus modes at launch: Team Deathmatch, Conquest, Demolition, and Crucible.

Horde Siege: cooperative missions
Horde Siege is an objective-based, wave-survival mode. Missions can ask a squad to secure an area, calibrate or repair a R.I.G., defend it, and survive a Horde sequence. Players earn shared Energy, while optional secondary objectives can provide rewards. Extraction is the final objective: The Coalition says at least one squad member must escape for the mission to count as completed and for collected Weapon Parts to be kept.
The Coalition describes three Horde Siege playlists and typical, not guaranteed, mission lengths:

Versus: four competitive modes
Every core Versus mode is 4v4. Players begin with the same loadout weapons and equipment; weapon mods are disabled, and teams compete to control power weapons placed around the map.

The Coalition lists six launch maps: Outpost, Battleship, Park, Precinct, Market, and Skyward. Its overview describes Ranked and Social playlists; Social options include Quickplay and Player vs Bot.
Boot Camp and Combat Training
Boot Camp teaches controls and mechanics. Combat Training is a separate way to practice on a multiplayer map, and The Coalition says it supports four-player co-op. These are useful starting points if you want to learn the game before joining competitive matches.

Does E-Day have campaign co-op?
Yes. Xbox says the campaign can be played solo, with two players in console split-screen, or with up to four players online. Campaign co-op is separate from Horde Siege and Versus, which are multiplayer modes in their own right. Xbox’s Gears of War: E-Day product page provides the current official platform and co-op details.
The cited Xbox page does not state an exact Horde Siege squad maximum. Do not assume that a player count for campaign co-op—or the way Horde missions are organized—also applies to Horde Siege.

Is Gears of War: E-Day crossplay?
Steam’s store listing advertises cross-platform play and invites across supported platforms. That supports cross-platform play, but it does not establish that every platform pairing or playlist follows identical rules.
There is a specific account-linking condition for Steam players: The Coalition’s August 3, 2026 beta FAQ says a Microsoft/Xbox account is not required just to play on Steam, but linking an Xbox account is required to send a cross-platform squad invite. Because that guidance was published for the beta, follow the current in-game account-linking instructions if the live game presents a different flow. Which platforms can play, and do you need Game Pass?
Xbox lists Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Steam, as platforms for the game. Xbox says online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, and Versus require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer on Xbox; the subscription is sold separately. This console requirement should not be generalized to Steam. Xbox lists Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass availability for the game.
The exact subscription and account flow may depend on where you play. Check the relevant storefront and the current in-game prompts for your platform.

Which mode should you choose?
- Choose Horde Siege for cooperative PvE objectives and wave survival. The playlist estimates range from roughly 15 minutes to about an hour, depending on the playlist and mission.
- Choose Versus for structured 4v4 PvP, with objectives ranging from eliminations and zone control to bomb planting or carrying a Power Core.
