Vampire Survivors is a real-time survival action game; Vampire Crawlers is an official spin-off built around turn-based card battles and first-person dungeon exploration. The key choice is whether you want to react to enemy waves in the moment or plan card sequences and explore between fights.

How the games differ at a glance

Feature Vampire Survivors Vampire Crawlers
Relationship The original game and setting. An official spin-off sharing the world, characters, items, and in-jokes. poncle founder Luca Galante described it as a spin-off, not the sequel being discussed separately in a November 2025 interview (Xbox Wire).
Core play Real-time, top-down survival action focused on outlasting enemy waves; Xbox Wire describes the original as a “reverse bullet hell” game (Xbox Wire). A turn-based roguelite deckbuilder and dungeon crawler. You play cards to defeat enemies, build a deck, and explore between battles (Steam; Xbox Wire).
Combat decisions The action and enemy pressure build as you try to survive a run. Card order matters: playing cards in ascending mana cost chains effects, and each step can amplify the next card. Wilds and card customization can extend combos (Steam; Nintendo).
Space and exploration The defining loop is survival action against waves, rather than the grid-based dungeon movement featured in Crawlers. First-person, grid-based exploration through multi-floor dungeons with walls, treasure, and interactions (Xbox Wire; Nintendo).

What playing Vampire Crawlers is like

Turns revolve around sequencing cards

Instead of relying on real-time movement and wave survival, Crawlers asks you to manage a deck and choose the order in which to play cards. The ascending-mana sequence is central: playing cards in order builds a combo, with each step amplifying the following card’s effect. Wild cards and customization offer ways to keep a sequence going (Steam; Nintendo).

Exploration happens between battles

Crawlers also changes how you move through the game world. Its first-person, grid-based dungeons have multiple floors, walls, treasure, and points of interaction, so exploration is an active part of the loop rather than just a backdrop to combat (Xbox Wire; Nintendo).

What Vampire Crawlers keeps from Vampire Survivors

The spin-off carries over the setting, characters, items, and humor of Vampire Survivors, but applies them to another genre. Galante summarized the shift in an Xbox Wire interview: “Jokes aside, this game is just a dungeon crawler you play with cards!” (Xbox Wire, November 20, 2025.) The familiar world is a point of continuity; the moment-to-moment play is not simply another version of the original.

Which game should you choose?

  • Choose Vampire Survivors if you want immediate, real-time action and the momentum of surviving increasingly demanding enemy waves.
  • Choose Vampire Crawlers if card sequencing, tactical turns, deckbuilding, and exploring dungeons between battles sound more appealing.

Those preferences follow from the games’ official descriptions; they are not claims that one is objectively better. If you are buying Crawlers, also check that it is available on your preferred platform and confirm the local store price, since availability and pricing can change.

Release, platforms, price, and estimated length

Vampire Crawlers launched on April 21, 2026. poncle lists Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation versions and says controller support is included (Steam; poncle FAQ). Its FAQ gives a publisher estimate of 20–30 hours to complete the game, with a bit longer needed to pursue every unlock; this is an estimate, not independently measured playtime (poncle FAQ).

The same FAQ lists $9.99 as the US launch price. That is a launch reference, not a guaranteed current price: regional pricing, platform restrictions, and later store changes can affect what you pay. Check your platform’s store for the current local price (poncle FAQ). poncle described mobile versions as planned for later in 2026, so that statement does not establish whether a mobile version is currently available; verify current availability with the relevant store (poncle FAQ).
