You cannot make a public token launch reliably bot-proof with one contract setting, private RPC, or wallet-screening tool. The practical goal is to reduce the advantage of fast automated buying, limit the value of duplicate-wallet claims, and avoid controls that create more risk for legitimate users than they remove. Start by identifying which attack you need to address: transaction ordering, rapid buying, or one person claiming through many addresses.
Know which launch threat you are trying to reduce
“Bots” can refer to different behaviors, and each calls for a different response. A buyer’s pending transaction being copied or reordered is not the same problem as a bot buying quickly after trading opens. Neither is the same as one operator using multiple wallets to claim extra tokens.
- Sniping: Automated traders watch for launch conditions and attempt to buy quickly, sometimes accumulating tokens before ordinary participants can act.
- Transaction ordering: A pending public-mempool transaction may be visible to bots that try to frontrun or sandwich it. This concerns a particular transaction, not the fairness of an entire token distribution.
- Sybil abuse: One person controls multiple addresses to evade per-wallet limits or obtain more airdrop or allocation shares.
Ethereum’s consensus-level Sybil resistance protects validator selection; it does not stop an individual from creating multiple wallets to claim a token distribution. Ethereum.org’s consensus documentation describes Sybil resistance as a measure of how a protocol fares against a Sybil attack, but the relevant protocol here is the consensus system—not your allocation rules.
Choose protections by the attack they address
| Approach | Primarily addresses | Main trade-off or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Trading gates, temporary limits, or launch-window taxes | Rapid automated accumulation after trading opens | Add contract complexity; can burden legitimate users and be evaded by splitting activity across addresses. The Blockchain Warfare study documents these patterns but does not establish that they stop determined attackers. |
| Risk scoring and human review of wallet clusters | Duplicate-address airdrop or allocation claims | Patterns are probabilistic, not identity proof; false positives and adaptive behavior are concerns. Fighting Sybils in Airdrops studies interaction and transfer patterns as ways to identify suspicious clusters. |
| Private transaction submission | Public-mempool visibility of a particular Ethereum transaction | Does not make an allocation Sybil-resistant or ensure that a transaction wins a race; introduces trust in the routing provider and builders. Flashbots Protect documents its private-mempool approach. |
| Auction or structured launch mechanism | How tokens are sold and liquidity is established | Changes the launch process rather than guaranteeing immunity from sniping; implementation details and constraints matter. Uniswap’s Liquidity Launcher reference documents specific strategies. |
Use a combination only when each part addresses a defined risk. A control’s presence in a contract or product description is not evidence that it is effective against every attacker or suitable for every chain.

Reduce the advantage of fast launch buyers
Consider launch mechanics before adding token restrictions
Uniswap’s Liquidity Launcher documentation describes two specific strategies. InstantLaunchStrategy creates a fixed-supply token in a native-ETH-paired v4 pool in one call. LBPStrategy runs an auction and later migrates the raised funds and reserved tokens into a pool at the clearing price. These are implementation options for that launcher, not general guarantees against bots or recommendations for every network. Review the strategy parameters and trust assumptions against the deployment you intend to make.
The same Uniswap documentation warns about a specific operational hazard: if tokens temporarily held by its launcher are acquired in one transaction and distributed in a separate transaction, anyone may be able to distribute them. Its supported flow batches acquisition and distribution atomically. The reference also says that rebasing and fee-on-transfer tokens are unsupported for this launcher. These are launcher-specific requirements, not universal ERC-20 rules.
If you add contract controls, make their scope explicit
Patterns documented in token contracts include delaying trading until a configured point, limiting buys or transfers, restricting transaction frequency, applying a temporary tax, and maintaining a sniper blocklist. Each adds behavior that users and integrations must contend with. A per-wallet cap can constrain one address but does not stop a person from using several addresses.

Before deployment, specify the exact rule, when it starts and ends, which addresses are exempt, and who can change or remove it. Review transfer compatibility and failure cases, including what happens if the launch time or configuration is wrong. Avoid describing a token as “anti-bot protected” without explaining what the restriction actually does and what it cannot do.

A study by Cernera and co-authors, The Blockchain Warfare: Investigating the Ecosystem of Sniper Bots on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, found that at least one examined anti-sniper mechanism appeared in 34.4% of its sampled Ethereum token contracts and 36.2% of its sampled BNB Smart Chain token contracts. These are measurements of that study’s samples, not current chain-wide adoption rates or evidence of the mechanisms’ effectiveness.
Make airdrop and allocation rules harder to game without treating patterns as proof
First decide what an extra address would gain and what legitimate participants must do to qualify. Then choose signals proportionate to that risk. Address age, common funding sources, repeated activity sequences, transaction timing, and token-transfer paths can help identify clusters for review. The Fighting Sybils in Airdrops paper examines similarities in DApp interactions and sequential or radial token-funding patterns; it presents a research method and case study, not a turnkey guarantee of ownership detection.

Do not automatically equate a shared funder or similar activity with common ownership. Several people may share a service, funding route, or pattern of behavior, while a determined operator can vary activity across addresses. Treat a model’s output as a risk signal, set a review process, and explain how a participant can appeal a denial.
Different eligibility methods impose different costs. The Uniswap Governance incentive-design analysis discusses trade-offs including privacy and access costs from identity checks, the possibility that collateral favors larger holders, and activity-pattern models’ vulnerability to adaptation. If using identity verification, economic friction, social attestations, retroactive activity, or human review, tell users what is required and why. Do not silently convert a heuristic into a claim of proven identity.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse private transaction routing for a narrow privacy benefit
Flashbots Protect says it sends Ethereum transactions through a private mempool to hide them from public-mempool frontrunning and sandwich bots. That can reduce public visibility of the particular pending transaction submitted through the service. It does not hide the launch itself once activity is on-chain, determine who qualifies for an airdrop, or guarantee that a transaction is included ahead of competing transactions.

There is also a trust assumption. Flashbots’ Quick Start cautions that a user sending a transaction to a builder trusts the builder not to frontrun or disclose it to third-party searchers. Its fast mode shares transaction information with registered builders and TEE searchers. Check the current supported networks and RPC configuration before relying on the service; the cited guidance is Ethereum-specific.
Plan the launch around measurable rules and failure handling
- Write down the threat model. State whether the concern is rapid buys, public-mempool ordering, duplicate allocation claims, or more than one of these. Define what an attacker can do and what outcome you want to make less profitable.
- Select the least burdensome relevant control. For a sale or pool launch, review the launch mechanism and any trading restrictions. For an airdrop, define eligibility signals and a review and appeal path. For one buyer’s pending Ethereum transaction, assess whether private submission fits the trust trade-off.
- Specify user-facing effects. Publish caps, delays, taxes, verification requirements, exemptions, and restriction end times where applicable. State who has administrative authority and what that authority permits.
- Review operational and compatibility risks. Check transfer behavior, transaction batching, launch timing, and failure cases against the chosen contract or launcher documentation. Do not assume one implementation’s constraints apply to every token standard or network.
- Describe residual risk honestly. Explain what the chosen measure reduces, what it does not address, and how disputed eligibility decisions are handled. Avoid guarantees such as “sniper-proof” or “Sybil-proof” unless a narrowly defined claim is demonstrably supported.
What the available evidence does—and does not—show
The cited sniper-bot study examines Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain token contracts; it does not establish current prevalence or effectiveness across all chains. Flashbots’ cited private-transaction guidance is for Ethereum, and the Uniswap launch strategies are specific to its Liquidity Launcher. The cited material does not establish a universal technical defense, reliable ground truth for Sybil ownership, or a general defense for Solana and other non-EVM launch platforms.
Accordingly, treat contract patterns as documented mechanisms, wallet clustering as inference, and private routing as a limited transaction-privacy measure. None alone proves a launch is fair or prevents a determined operator from adapting.
