A token launchpad is generally the broader route and may include a token sale; a launchpool distributes project tokens to people who lock supported assets. For a crypto project, the choice comes down to whether it needs a sale-based fundraising event or mainly wants to distribute tokens, as well as its stage and the specific platform’s rules. Binance’s definitions and eligibility criteria are examples of one platform’s approach, not universal industry rules.

What is the difference between a launchpad and a launchpool?

A launchpad is a platform or program for bringing a token project to users. Depending on the platform and event, it may include a direct token sale. A launchpool distributes project tokens as rewards to participants who commit supported assets to a pool for a stated period. It is a distribution mechanism, not necessarily a token sale.

Binance’s guide, updated June 29, 2026, describes Launchpad as its wider token-launch platform and Launchpool as a mechanism within it where users lock assets to farm new tokens. Binance says the locked assets remain in the user’s possession and can be unlocked; participants should still review the event terms and consider their exposure to both the committed asset and the reward token.

Which route fits the project’s objective?

Decision factor Launchpad or token sale Launchpool
Primary objective Consider when the project wants a sale-based token launch and fundraising event, if the platform offers one. Consider when the project’s primary aim is distributing tokens to platform users through rewards.
Participant action Participants seek an allocation under the event’s sale rules. Participants lock supported assets and receive a share of the reward pool under event rules.
Token stage Eligibility depends on platform policy. Binance says its Launchpad is for relatively earlier-stage projects that have not had a token generation event. Eligibility depends on platform policy. Binance says Launchpool can accept projects with circulating tokens or with no coin issued yet.
Key terms to verify Sale pricing, allocation rules, timing, eligibility, and any event-specific limits. Supported assets, lock or farming window, reward allocation, and claim and withdrawal rules.

These routes are not interchangeable simply because both may be associated with a token launch. A sale and a reward distribution have different participant mechanics and may serve different project objectives. Neither structure, by itself, establishes that the token will gain value or that participants or the project will achieve a particular outcome.

How Binance Launchpool rewards work

On Binance Launchpool, a participant’s reward share is based on their locked amount relative to the total amount locked in the relevant pool. Binance Support says rewards accrue hourly and participants may claim them before the farming period ends. Supported assets, reward allocations, and event schedules are specific to each event, so check the current announcement and terms rather than relying on a past event’s conditions. The current instructions are on Binance’s Launchpool support page, updated March 25, 2026.

How project stage affects Binance eligibility

Binance’s project listing guidance, published June 18, 2021, says Launchpad is limited to relatively earlier-stage projects that have not yet held a token generation event. It says Launchpool can be open to projects with tokens already circulating or with no coin issued yet. This is Binance-specific guidance published in 2021, not a definition of all launchpads or launchpools. Because criteria can change, check Binance’s live application process and current project requirements before choosing a route.

What project teams should verify before applying

  • Objective: Decide whether the project needs a sale-based fundraising event, token distribution, or both. Confirm which of those the platform actually offers for the proposed event.
  • Event economics and mechanics: Review the sale terms or reward pool, allocation method, supported assets, event dates, and any lock, claim, or withdrawal conditions.
  • Audience and access: Assess whether the platform’s user base and geographic availability fit the project and intended participants.
  • Project readiness: Review the platform’s application criteria and the project information it requests. Binance’s guidance discusses product, team, and adoption factors and says the founder or CEO should complete the application.
  • Selection uncertainty: Binance says applications are subject to due diligence and not all applicants are accepted. Contact after an initial review is not a guarantee of listing or selection.

Binance’s terminology, event design, and application boundaries may differ from those of other platforms. Treat “launchpad” and “launchpool” as labels to investigate, not proof that another service uses Binance’s mechanics.

Participant eligibility is also platform-specific

For Binance Launchpool, identity verification and residence in an eligible jurisdiction are required. Binance’s support page lists excluded locations, warns that the list is not exhaustive, and says it may change. A project team should account for access restrictions when assessing audience reach; participants should verify their own eligibility and the current terms on the platform before taking part.
