Choose a robot vacuum by its exact model and sales region, then check four things separately: the manufacturer’s security-update policy, its app-update policy, whether it promises continued cloud features, and what the vacuum can do without an internet connection. A security-update period is not a guarantee that remote control, maps, schedules, or every app feature will remain available for the same length of time.
What “long-term support” needs to mean
A connected vacuum depends on several kinds of support, and a company can publish a date for one without committing to the others. Check each separately rather than treating “supported” as a single promise.
- Security updates: Patches for vulnerabilities in the robot, its software, or a related app. Check the policy’s start date, endpoint, eligible models, and region.
- App maintenance and compatibility: Updates to the app and continued compatibility with your phone’s operating system. An app update horizon does not necessarily guarantee that every feature will work on every model or phone.
- Cloud-service continuity: Continued access to accounts, remote commands, maps, history, schedules, notifications, and other server-dependent features. A security policy is not, by itself, a promise to keep these services running.
- Offline operation: What the robot can do if your internet connection or the manufacturer’s cloud is unavailable. This is model-specific; check whether local buttons, saved maps, or schedules still work.
- Product support: Warranty, repairs, replacement parts, and customer service. Check the terms for your country and the precise model.
What to verify before buying
- Identify the exact model and region. Record the full model or SKU and the country where it will be sold. Policies can vary by model and region, and a product-family name alone may not identify the policy entry that applies.
- Find the security-update policy. Look for the start point, minimum duration or end date, eligible-model list, and any regional qualifications. Do not read a security endpoint as an app shutdown date.
- Look for a separate app-update statement. Confirm which app it covers and whether the date refers to security patches, app updates, or something else.
- Ask what happens to cloud features. Check whether the manufacturer gives a dated commitment for remote control, maps, cleaning history, scheduling, notifications, and firmware delivery. If it does not, treat their long-term availability as unspecified.
- Confirm phone and feature compatibility. Check the supported operating-system versions, app version, language, region, and whether the features you want work with your exact robot.
- Ask about offline use and service routes. Find out what controls and cleaning functions remain available without internet, and where to get warranty, repair, and parts support.
- Keep a record. Save the policy page or a dated screenshot and, when cloud continuity is important, request a written answer about the specific model and region.
What manufacturers’ published policies say
The figures below describe different policy scopes, not comparable guarantees of total app or cloud-service life. They do not establish a universal winner for long-term connected features.
| Manufacturer and source scope | Published support statement | What it does—and does not—establish |
|---|---|---|
| Roborock, US policy checked in 2026 | At least two years of software-security updates for robot vacuums; support begins no later than the model’s sale date on Roborock’s official website. Roborock US security policy | A minimum security-update period for the stated product category. It does not establish how long every app or cloud function will work. |
| Roborock, UK policy checked in 2026 | At least two years of security updates for covered device types. The policy lists the Roborock app’s security-update end date as 31 December 2026. It says patch delivery can vary by model and region. Roborock UK security policy | The app date concerns security updates, not app or cloud shutdown. The policy uses type designations, and the retail-model mapping was not established; confirm that a specific designation applies before relying on it. |
| ECOVACS, UK policy checked in 2026 | At least three years of security updates from launch for certain device models, and ECOVACS HOME app update services until at least 31 December 2034. The displayed device table had no model rows when checked. ECOVACS UK data protection and security policy | The app-update horizon is not a guarantee that every cloud service or robot feature will work through 2034. Check model eligibility and regional applicability with ECOVACS. |
| Xiaomi, Security Center policy checked in 2026 | At least two years of IoT security updates from launch for certain models; some may receive three years or longer depending on actual conditions. Xiaomi maintains an end-of-life list. Xiaomi Security Center IoT update policy | Eligibility must be confirmed against the named model and current list. This is a security-support policy, not a fixed cloud-feature lifetime. |
Because these statements cover different regions, products, and kinds of updates, comparing the number of years alone can mislead. None supplies a common, model-by-model measure of how long all connected functions will remain available.

App compatibility can vary by robot and feature
Do not assume that an app listing means every feature works with every vacuum. iRobot’s compatibility documentation distinguishes features such as smart maps, clean-map reports, push notifications, Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT by robot model, firmware, app version, language, and region. Check the exact combination you plan to use in iRobot’s robot and app compatibility information.
Xiaomi’s Robot Vacuum T12 page describes remote app control, cleaning-progress monitoring, schedules, and online and OTA updates. It notes that the app may be called Mi Home or Xiaomi Home depending on the region and includes an iOS compatibility statement tied to the cited app version. Those are product and compatibility details, not a promise about how long cloud features will be available. See Xiaomi Robot Vacuum T12.

What a cloud outage can change
Cloud dependence matters most when a feature you use needs the company’s servers. iRobot’s troubleshooting guidance says cloud or remote-connection failures can make remote connection, history and Clean Map reports, smart-map creation for supported models, and software updates unavailable. This describes connection failures and does not establish identical behavior for every robot. Check the guidance at iRobot’s cloud-connection troubleshooting page, then ask the maker what remains usable offline on the model you are considering.
For another example of connected features, Xiaomi’s X10+ page describes app-based maps, encrypted cloud storage, and OTA upgrades, and directs users to a separate firmware and support policy. It does not state a fixed period for cloud-feature availability. See Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10+.

How to interpret current company statements
Some manufacturers describe current support plans without publishing a model-specific end date. iRobot says, “We plan to continue supporting current products, including customer service, software updates where applicable, and warranty coverage.” It also says there are no planned changes affecting app functionality or data security. These are current statements, not dated end-of-support commitments. See iRobot’s current product-support statement.
A live service-status page is also only a snapshot: iRobot’s service status page reported apps, account login, remote access, smart maps, software updates, and customer care operational when checked. Current availability cannot establish how long those services will continue.
