Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo make an Android phone easier to read, adjust Font size for text and Display size for buttons and other interface elements. If a specific item remains too small, use Accessibility magnification; for a web page or text passage, try Reading Mode. Menu names and feature availability vary by Android version and device, so search Settings for the setting name if the path differs.
Choose the right adjustment for what is hard to read
| What you need | Try first | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Text is too small throughout the phone | Increase Font size | Some apps do not follow the system setting, and enlarged text may not fit a fixed layout. Google’s text and display settings guidance and its text scaling guidance explain these limitations. |
| Buttons, icons, and other interface items are too small | Increase Display size | This scales displayed items, not just text. Use the preview to decide whether the overall layout still works. Google documents the control and its preview. |
| Only a particular detail is too small | Accessibility Magnification | Magnification enlarges all or part of the screen, but requires a shortcut and may need panning. Google’s magnification guidance describes the options. |
| A web page or passage is difficult to read | Reading Mode | It can change text presentation and read content aloud, but is not a universal control for every app screen. See Google’s accessibility feature guidance. |
| Contrast or color distinction is the problem | Try Dark theme, color correction, or color inversion | These options affect the screen differently; inversion affects media, and darkening can alter images or legibility. See Google’s guidance on dark theme and color inversion. |
Increase text size with Font size
- Open Settings and search for Font size. On some devices, the setting is under an Accessibility or Display menu.
- Move the slider until the preview is comfortable. Google says the control can go up to 200%; that is the documented slider limit, not a recommendation to use the maximum.
- Check the apps where you read most. The Quick Settings Font Size tile can also adjust text if your device offers it.
Font size changes text, not necessarily the size of buttons, icons, or other controls. Google notes that the setting does not apply to some apps, so a larger system setting will not guarantee larger text everywhere.
Enlarge buttons and other interface items with Display size
- In Settings, search for Display size.
- Adjust the slider and inspect its preview. Choose a scale that makes controls easier to target without making important content awkward to navigate.
- If the result does not suit you, use the reset-to-original option for display and text preferences, where available.
Display size is separate from Font size: use it when interface elements are too small, even if the text itself is already comfortable.
Magnify a small part of the screen
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Magnification. If you do not see that path, search Settings for Magnification.
- Turn on a magnification shortcut and select the shortcut offered on your phone. Its placement can depend on your navigation setup and Android version.
- Activate the shortcut when you need to enlarge something. Google documents full-screen and partial-screen magnification, with magnification up to 8x.
- While zoomed, drag with two fingers to move around; pinch with two fingers to adjust zoom.
Magnification suits occasional small details without permanently enlarging the whole interface. Depending on the settings, zoom may turn off when you open or close an app. A triple-tap shortcut can also introduce a short delay to single taps.

Try contrast and color settings without assuming they improve every screen
Android offers options such as bold text, color correction, color inversion, and Dark theme, but availability depends on the device and Android version. Some apps do not use the bold-text setting, and color correction is not available on every device.
Dark theme
Dark theme changes Android system screens and supported apps; it does not change media such as videos. Android 16 also includes expanded dark theme, which can darken interfaces in many apps without native dark-theme support. Images may look different, text over images may become harder to read, and some apps may be excluded or opt out.

Color inversion and color correction
Color inversion changes colors across the whole display, including photos and video. Color correction is intended to adjust how colors appear, but its availability varies. Try the option with the apps and media you actually use, and turn it off wherever it makes content less clear.
Because these features alter appearance rather than simply enlarging text, judge them on the specific screens that are difficult to read. Google’s dark theme and color inversion guidance describes their coverage and limitations.

Use Reading Mode for text-focused content
Reading Mode can adjust contrast, color, and font size for text in websites and apps, and can read content aloud. It is useful when the words in an article or passage are the problem, but it is not a way to resize every app interface or its controls. Availability and behavior can vary, so check whether it is offered on your device.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why an app may not respond to larger text
Android’s Font size setting can scale text when an app uses scalable-pixel text sizing. An app with fixed text sizes or a constrained layout may ignore the setting, crop larger text, or obscure nearby content. That is a limitation of the app’s implementation, not something another increase to the system slider will necessarily fix.

- Look for an app-specific text-size, zoom, or accessibility control.
- For a text passage, try Reading Mode if it is available.
- For a small control or region, use Magnification.
- If enlarged text is clipped or overlaps, reduce the app’s text setting if available and report the layout problem to the app’s developer.
Google’s text scaling guidance explains that app layouts need to accommodate larger text; the system setting cannot repair a layout that does not expand.
If the setting or feature is missing
Android settings and accessibility features vary by manufacturer, version, and market. Start by searching Settings for the feature name rather than relying on a menu path from another phone. Google’s current guidance mentions Android 16 for expanded dark theme and certain other options, and Android 14 for the magnifier settings panel; those version-specific details may not match every device. You can also check the relevant Google help page for the feature to see whether your version is covered.
