Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteChoose a Surface Pro if you want a tablet first and need a keyboard only sometimes; choose a 16-inch 2-in-1 if you want a laptop first, with a large touchscreen and keyboard always attached. The difference matters most when you carry or hold the device: a Surface Pro’s keyboard detaches, while a convertible such as Lenovo’s Yoga 7 folds its screen back on a 360-degree hinge but remains a laptop-sized object.
This comparison uses current US manufacturer specifications for the Surface Pro and Lenovo’s 16-inch Yoga 7/7i examples. Configurations vary by model and region, and the listed weights are manufacturer figures—not measurements from a matched hands-on test.
What is the practical difference?
A Surface Pro separates the screen from the keyboard. You can use the tablet on its own, prop it up with its built-in kickstand, or attach a keyboard for laptop-style work. A 16-inch convertible keeps its keyboard attached and rotates the display through a 360-degree hinge for laptop, tent, or tablet modes.
That makes “tablet mode” mean different things. With a Surface Pro, you can hold just the screen. With a convertible, you fold the screen around the keyboard, leaving a larger, heavier device to hold. The convertible’s advantage is that it is ready for typing and offers more display area without requiring a separate keyboard accessory.

How do the size, weight, and display compare?
Microsoft’s current US listing gives the Surface Pro tablet weights as 1.5 lb for the 12-inch model and 1.97 lb for the 13-inch model. Those figures are for the tablet, so a keyboard, pen, case, or charger adds to the weight of a working kit. Microsoft lists the 12-inch model’s touch display as 3:2 with a 2880 × 1920 resolution. Microsoft’s Surface Pro product page has the current listed models and configuration details.
Lenovo’s current US product pages list starting laptop weights of 1.77 kg (3.90 lb) for the 16-inch AMD Yoga 7 2-in-1 Gen 10 and 1.92 kg (4.23 lb) for the 16-inch Intel Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10. These are laptop-body figures, not directly matched carry-weight comparisons with a Surface Pro and its accessories. Lenovo’s cited AMD base display option is a 16:10, 1920 × 1200 IPS touchscreen; other listings may offer higher-resolution OLED displays, so verify the exact SKU.
| Example | Listed weight | Display information in cited listing |
|---|---|---|
| Surface Pro, 12-inch | 1.5 lb for the tablet (Microsoft US listing) | 3:2, 2880 × 1920 touch display (Microsoft US listing) |
| Surface Pro, 13-inch | 1.97 lb for the tablet (Microsoft US listing) | Display details vary by configuration; check Microsoft’s current listing |
| Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 Gen 10, 16-inch AMD | Starting at 1.77 kg (3.90 lb) for the laptop (Lenovo US listing) | Base option cited: 16:10, 1920 × 1200 IPS touchscreen; other configurations may differ |
| Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10, 16-inch Intel | Starting at 1.92 kg (4.23 lb) for the laptop (Lenovo US listing) | Check the exact configuration for panel and resolution |
The figures illustrate the form-factor trade-off, not a controlled comparison: the Surface weights exclude its detachable accessories, while the Yoga figures are for complete laptop bodies. A smaller tablet is generally easier to carry or hold on its own; the 16-inch screen provides more room for windows and text when you are seated at a desk or table.

Which form factor is better for typing, inking, and desk work?
Choose Surface Pro for handheld use and flexible setup
The tablet-first body suits reading, reviewing documents, handwritten notes, sketching, or marking up pages while holding the screen separately from a keyboard. You can leave the keyboard behind when the task is mostly touch or pen input. For laptop-style work, the kickstand props up the tablet and the keyboard attaches when needed; confirm the keyboard and pen package, since Microsoft says the Surface Pro keyboard and Surface Slim Pen are sold separately.
Choose a 16-inch convertible for sustained typing and a larger workspace
The integrated keyboard is always with the laptop, and the larger display is useful for spreadsheets, side-by-side windows, and long desk sessions. Tent mode can be useful for viewing a presentation or video, while the screen also folds back for touch input. The Yoga remains a laptop-sized object in tablet mode, however, so pen capability does not make it as convenient to hold as a detachable tablet.
Lenovo lists the Yoga Pen as optional on the cited AMD model. If inking is important, check whether the pen is included in the exact configuration you are considering rather than assuming it comes in the box.

Which one has the ports you need?
Port selection depends on the exact model. Microsoft lists two USB-C/USB 3.2 ports on the 12-inch Surface Pro. The 13-inch listing has two USB-C/USB4 ports and Surface Connect. Lenovo’s cited 16-inch AMD Yoga listing includes HDMI, two full-function USB-C ports, USB-A, headset audio, and microSD; the cited Intel Yoga 7i listing includes HDMI, Thunderbolt 4 USB-C, USB-A, and microSD.
If you regularly connect a monitor, USB-A accessory, memory card, or other peripherals, compare the ports on the precise configuration with your devices. A Surface Pro’s USB-C-focused selection may mean bringing a dock or adapter for a setup that the cited Yoga models can connect to directly.

What should you expect from battery information?
Lenovo’s user guide lists a 70 Wh battery capacity for the 16-inch Yoga 7/7i models. Microsoft publishes an “up to” battery-duration claim for Surface Pro under specified video-playback conditions. Capacity and manufacturer playback duration are different measures, so they do not establish which device lasts longer during mixed-use work. The available figures here do not provide a matched mixed-use battery test.

How to choose for a mixed workflow
- Write down your three most common tasks. Include what you do—such as typing, reading, annotating, or presenting—and where you usually do it.
- Count the tasks that involve holding the screen or moving around. If handheld reading, inking, or work away from a desk is common, the detachable Surface Pro design is likely the better fit.
- Count seated typing tasks and note how much screen space they need. If most work happens at a desk or table and benefits from a larger display and always-attached keyboard, the 16-inch convertible is likely the better fit.
- Compare complete setups, not just the device. Check the exact model, display, included keyboard or pen, ports, and the weight of accessories you expect to carry.
This decision rule follows from the listed designs and specifications; it is not a claim from comparative hands-on testing.
Which current examples represent each format?
For a large convertible, the Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 Gen 10 (16-inch AMD) is one current example. Lenovo describes it as a 360-degree convertible and lists laptop, tablet, and tent modes. Its product page has configuration-specific details: Yoga 7 2-in-1 (16 inch AMD). The Intel alternative cited here is the Yoga 7i 2-in-1 (16-inch Intel). These are examples, not a claim that either is the right choice for every buyer.
Lenovo’s Yoga 7/7i 2-in-1 Series User Guide lists battery capacity for the 16-inch models. Product configurations, bundles, and regional offerings can change, so confirm the specifications and accessories for the model sold where you live.
