To limit the data your robot vacuum shares, identify its exact model and region, then review its app and manual for camera, microphone, map sync, diagnostics, integrations, and sharing controls. Turn off features you do not use, and use the maker’s account privacy process if you want data deleted. The trade-off is that map-dependent tools such as room or zone cleaning, schedules, and cleaning-history reports may stop working. For less exposure at the outset, consider a model without camera or audio hardware and leave optional cloud sync off; even then, the robot may still create operational or navigation data.
What data can a robot vacuum create or share?
“Robot vacuum data” is not one category. Depending on the model and enabled features, it can include maps, the robot’s position and route history, room and no-go-zone information, cleaning and error logs, account and app settings, and sometimes images, live video, or voice-command data. These categories are not shared by every device. Roborock’s Trust Center says practices can vary by model; iRobot’s data FAQ and Eufy’s G50 declaration describe different product-specific data handling.
Separate creating a map from uploading a map. A robot may use spatial data for navigation while cloud storage or processing depends on an app setting. iRobot says a map is sent for cloud processing when a customer elects to view it in the app. Eufy’s declaration for the G50 says mapping and navigation data are used for robot operation unless the user enables cloud sync. Neither example establishes what every brand or model does.
How to audit your vacuum’s privacy settings
- Identify the exact product and region. Check the model number, the country or region selected in the app account, and the current manual and privacy notice. Controls and available features can differ by model, app version, and country.
- Review every relevant app control. Look for camera, video-call, pet or obstacle image, microphone, voice assistant, mapping, map history, cloud sync, diagnostics, third-party integrations, and device-sharing settings. Names and availability vary, so use the app and manual for your product rather than assuming another model’s menu applies.
- Disable features you do not use. Consider whether live viewing, saved maps, map history, voice control, or data sharing is worth the related data handling. Confirm which features stop working before disabling mapping or internet access.
- Check account-level privacy options. Look for procedures to access, copy, correct, or delete data and withdraw consent where available. Read the retention and backup terms as well as the deletion steps.
- Verify the result. Check the app and manual to see what is disabled and whether the robot continues to clean as expected. If you block internet access at your router, test the product’s behavior instead of assuming it will retain all functions.
Controls can require more than an app toggle. Roborock says some video-call features require enabling the option in the app and pressing a physical button on the robot. The company says live video and audio streams are cleared after the call; its Trust Center also cautions that practices vary by model. Those are Roborock statements, not a guarantee about other products.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What changes when you turn off mapping or internet access?
Mapping can support room and zone targeting, map display, schedules, and cleaning-history features. Disabling it may remove those conveniences as well as stopping a particular kind of cloud map handling. For relevant Smart Maps products, iRobot’s UK guidance says to open Accounts > Privacy > Mapping Features, choose the robot, and toggle Mapping Features. It says turning the feature off stops spatial data from going to iRobot cloud servers but also disables map-dependent functions; turning it on again requires creating a new map. This is the page’s UK path for the products it covers, not a universal robot-vacuum setting. See iRobot’s UK Smart Maps privacy instructions.
Internet disconnection can also remove app or connected features. iRobot says its listed Wi-Fi-connected vacuums and mops can operate without internet or cloud connectivity, but scheduled cleaning, customized features, map reports, and voice-assistant integrations may be unavailable. Check the manual for your exact product; this statement does not establish offline behavior for other brands.

Can you delete data already stored in the cloud?
Use the manufacturer’s account privacy or data-request process, and read what it says about deletion, retention, and backups. For example, Roborock’s US Privacy Policy describes data deletion requests and says copies in backup systems may remain until cleared or anonymized, while isolated from further processing. That is Roborock’s stated policy and should not be assumed to describe other manufacturers.
Cloud deletion is distinct from switching off a feature going forward. If you want both, check whether the vendor offers separate controls for future collection or sync and a request process for data already associated with your account.

What encryption does—and does not—tell you
Encryption helps protect the content of communications, but it does not settle every privacy question. A 2024 study by Ulsmaag, Lin, and Lee reported that researchers could infer certain events from traffic metadata in one deployed robot-vacuum environment even though end-to-end encryption protected exchanged content. The finding is limited to that study’s environment; it is not evidence that every vacuum or network exposes the same information. Read the 2024 study.
A product-specific example: Eufy G50 Hybrid
Eufy/Anker’s EU Data Act declaration for the Eufy G50 Hybrid Robot Vacuum says the model generates mapping and navigation data used for robot operation unless the user enables cloud sync. It also says the device does not collect audio, video, or sensitive biological data. This declaration supports claims about this model only; it does not mean the product creates no data or establish how other Eufy models behave. See the G50 declaration.
