You do not necessarily need a separate screenshot set for every iPhone. Apple currently requires at least one screenshot for the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) category. If your app’s interface and content work consistently across sizes and localizations, you can submit screenshots at the highest required resolution and let App Store Connect scale them down. Use custom target-size images when a layout or localization needs a different presentation.
Which iPhone screenshot size do you need?
Use Apple’s current screenshot specifications to identify the required display category and accepted pixel dimensions. Apple’s current requirement is at least one screenshot for the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) category. Choose from the dimensions Apple lists for that category and your chosen orientation; do not infer a required pixel size from a phone’s marketing name or screen diagonal.

For the current medium Dynamic Island category, Apple lists portrait dimensions of 1179 × 2556 and 1206 × 2622 pixels, along with their landscape counterparts. The accepted dimensions can change, so check the live specification page before exporting. Upload between one and ten screenshots for each device size. Supported formats are JPEG, JPG, and PNG; images must not have an alpha channel or transparency.
Can one screenshot size cover smaller iPhones?
Yes, if the app’s interface, visible content, and localization are consistent across device sizes. Apple allows you to provide screenshots at the highest required resolution and have App Store Connect scale them down for smaller sizes. This avoids preparing a separate capture for every supported iPhone size.

Use custom target-size screenshots when scaling would make the listing less accurate or legible—for example, when a layout changes substantially, smaller screens show different content, or localized text needs a different composition. Apple provides custom-size wells in Media Manager. The trade-off is that each tailored set adds export, review, and maintenance work.
How to prepare and upload iPhone screenshots
- Check Apple’s specifications. Open Screenshot specifications and note the required category, accepted pixel dimensions, and orientation for your target images.
- Export the images. Prepare one to ten screenshots per device-size set in JPEG, JPG, or PNG. Make sure each file matches an accepted dimension and contains no alpha channel or transparency.
- Open the app version in App Store Connect. Select your app, then select the version under the platform you are editing. Choose the language for the listing.
- Upload the required iPhone set. In App Previews and Screenshots, choose the iPhone tab and upload the images.
- Add custom sizes or localizations if needed. Open View All Sizes in Media Manager, then add images to the appropriate target-size well.
- Check the order and previews. Arrange the images to present the app clearly, and confirm they render correctly in their wells.
Apple’s upload guidance identifies Prepare for Submission, Invalid Binary, Rejected, Metadata Rejected, and Developer Rejected as statuses in which screenshots can be updated. Once a submission is approved, Apple says screenshot changes require creating a new version.

Plan for the iPhone Duo screenshot requirement
Apple’s October 5, 2026 App Store Connect release notes say: “Submit your iPhone Duo optimized apps and games in App Store Connect today. Starting April 2027, any apps or games submitted will need to include screenshots for iPhone Duo.” The current screenshot specifications already list iPhone Duo dimensions: outer display, 1398 × 2034 and 2034 × 1398 pixels; inner display, 2007 × 2853 and 2853 × 2007 pixels.
If you expect to submit an app or game beginning in April 2027, account for these image sets in your capture and export workflow. Check Apple’s live requirements again near submission, since the accepted specifications may change.

Why older screenshot-size guides may differ
Apple’s release notes record that on September 17, 2024, the minimum changed to a single iPhone screenshot at 6.5-inch or 6.9-inch display size. Apple’s current specification page describes the requirement using device display categories instead. Older tutorials based only on diagonal measurements may therefore not identify the current required category.
