If Marvel Rivals starts crashing, stuttering, or behaving differently after an update, first check whether the exact symptom appears in the patch notes for your game version. An update may coincide with a local PC issue, but that does not prove it caused one. The right fix depends on whether you are seeing a crash, low frame rate, input delay, network latency, a matchmaking change, or a loading/reconnect failure.
Identify the symptom and check your game version
Before changing settings, write down your platform (PC, PlayStation, or Xbox), the game version or update date, any error text, and when the problem occurs. On PC, note your GPU and driver version as well. Check the official Marvel Rivals site and its patch notes for your exact update; a fix listed for one hero, mode, or action may not apply to a different problem.
Be precise about what “lag” means. Frame stutter or low FPS is a graphics-performance symptom; delayed mouse response can be an input issue; high network latency or disconnects are different again. Likewise, being unable to enter or rejoin a match is not the same as a lobby switching modes. The steps below that mention Windows apply to PC, not console settings.
Fix repeated crashes or PC launch failures
The official Common Technical Issues FAQ recommends checking the game files first, then addressing graphics drivers and security software if crashes continue.

- Verify and repair the game files. In the game launcher or platform client, open Marvel Rivals’ settings or properties and use its file-integrity verification or repair option. The exact label and path depend on whether you launch through Steam or another supported client. Let the check finish, apply any repair, and try launching again.
- If crashes persist, enable GPU Debug Mode and clean-install the current graphics driver. Use the GPU manufacturer’s current driver package and its clean-install option, where offered. Restart the PC after installation. Change one item at a time so you can tell whether the crash behavior changes.
- Check for security-software interference. The FAQ notes that antivirus or firewall software can misidentify the game executable and interfere with launch, match entry, or reconnecting. If your security software identifies a block, use its documented exception controls to allow only the official
Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exeand the game’s actual installation path. Avoid turning off protection as a routine troubleshooting step. - Try the launcher’s shader option as a mitigation. The FAQ suggests enabling Switch Shader Compilation Mode in the launcher to reduce the likelihood of crashes. This is a possible mitigation, not a guaranteed fix.
- If the crash remains, collect the requested details and contact support. Follow the official FAQ’s information-collection guidance and use the official support channel. Include the version, platform, crash timing, error text, and troubleshooting steps already tried.
Reduce stuttering or low performance on PC
For frequent stuttering, the official FAQ recommends a clean installation of the current graphics driver and assigning Marvel Rivals high performance in Windows graphics settings.
- Clean-install the latest driver for your GPU, then restart the PC.
- Open Windows Settings → System → Display → Graphics.
- Select Marvel Rivals in the app list. If it is not listed, add the game executable from its installation folder.
- Choose Options, select High performance, and save the setting. Launch the game and check whether the stutter changes.
- If performance is still poor, lower demanding in-game graphics options such as texture quality and test again.
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee fast performance. The official December 6, 2024 FAQ says, “Even if your device meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements for Marvel Rivals, slow performance can be caused by various factors.” Its DirectX 12 answer lists NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580 as minimum graphics-card examples; that dated specification is not a current independent benchmark or a promise of good performance.

When the problem is mouse input lag
If the game runs smoothly but mouse input feels delayed, check whether your mouse uses a high polling rate. The January 16, 2026 official notes describe an experimental optimization under Settings → Keyboard that may resolve related lag. It is a targeted option for high-polling-rate mouse issues, not a general remedy for network latency or low FPS.
Check matchmaking, match entry, and reconnect problems
First compare the behavior with the current patch notes. The October 1, 2026 official notes say a specific issue was fixed: selecting GO in Jeff’s Superstar Search could force the lobby into Quick Match. That fix is relevant when the problem is that exact action and result; it is not a general matchmaking repair.

If you cannot enter a match or reconnect after a disconnect on PC, the official FAQ says antivirus or firewall interference is possible. Check security software’s block history and, if needed, create a narrowly targeted exception for the official game executable and installation path using the software maker’s instructions. This is a separate troubleshooting branch from the Jeff’s Superstar Search lobby behavior.
For other matchmaking failures, note whether queues fail to start, a lobby changes mode, or the game cannot load into a match. Check notes for your exact version before changing local settings. The official troubleshooting guidance cited here does not establish a universal local fix for every matchmaking problem.

Use patch notes to distinguish a game bug from a local issue
Patch notes sometimes identify narrow, hero-specific problems that can resemble general lag or input delay. For example, the September 11, 2026 Season 10 notes report a fix for delayed ability response after Cloak & Dagger switched forms while using the Oblivion Shroud Team-Up. The July 2, 2026 notes report a fix for brief lag or stuttering that could occur when Rogue used Ability Absorption. Neither example establishes a general fix for network lag or PC performance.
Older notes can explain a past issue without diagnosing a current one. On August 19, 2025, the official team said it had deployed a hotfix that “significantly reduc[ed] the likelihood” of client freezes after enabling NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation and GPU crashes. Treat that as historical context; it does not show that a present-day crash has the same cause.

What to send support if the issue continues
Record the information that helps distinguish a game-side issue from a local one, then follow the official FAQ’s information-collection instructions and contact the official support channel.
- Platform and exact game version or update date.
- What happens and when: at launch, during a match, on match entry, or while reconnecting.
- Exact error message or a clear description of the matchmaking behavior.
- For PC: hardware details, GPU and driver version, relevant graphics settings, and security software involved.
- Steps already attempted and whether each changed the symptom.
These official troubleshooting recommendations and patch examples span different dates, and the game’s current behavior can change with later updates. Match your symptoms to the current version rather than assuming an older note or a general PC step explains the problem.
