An “offline” message is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Check the robot’s power, your phone’s internet connection, the home Wi-Fi near the dock, and the app’s permissions before assuming the manufacturer’s cloud is down. Start with reversible checks and use the instructions for your exact robot model before changing Wi-Fi settings or resetting it.

First, identify which part is failing

A robot vacuum’s app connection depends on several links: the robot needs power, the home network must reach the internet, the phone app must be able to connect, and the manufacturer’s service must be available. An “offline” status alone does not tell you which link failed.

  • Robot or charging problem: The robot is not charging, has no power, or does not respond to its onboard controls.
  • Home network problem: The router or internet connection is down, the signal is weak where the robot docks, or the Wi-Fi name or password changed.
  • Phone, app, or account problem: The phone is offline, a required permission is disabled, or the app cannot access the account or local network.
  • Manufacturer cloud problem: The app or robot cannot communicate with the maker’s online service. Depending on the brand and model, some app features may stop working even if the robot still has power.

Work through the checks below in order. Avoid repeatedly trying to pair the robot until you know whether the phone and home internet are working.

Check the robot’s power and physical controls

Make sure the charging base is plugged in, the robot is seated correctly, and its charging indicators behave as described in its manual. Try the robot’s onboard buttons if it is safe and appropriate for your model. A dead or fully discharged robot cannot connect to Wi-Fi, as iRobot’s connectivity guide notes.

  • 【Engineered for Pet Owner】 The exclusive no-entanglement design negates the need for your dirty hands to clean up tangled dog or cat hair, unlike traditional roller brushes. Its dual rotating electric side brushes sweep and collect hidden pet hair more efficiently throughout the house, saving you the hassle.

If the robot does not respond or appears not to charge, resolve that power or docking issue first. If it does respond to its physical controls, that is useful evidence that the problem may be limited to the app or connection; it does not guarantee that every model can start or finish cleaning while offline.

Check your phone, app, and the manufacturer’s service

  • Confirm the phone can open other websites or apps that use the internet, and turn off airplane mode.
  • Update the robot vacuum’s app if an update is available, then close and reopen it.
  • Check the manufacturer’s system-status page, if one is provided. For iRobot, use the iRobot System Status page.
  • Look for an app error that mentions sign-in, permission, or cloud service. These point to different problems and may require different fixes.

For iRobot, the message “The Cloud service is currently unavailable” can indicate trouble between the app and cloud, between the cloud and robot, or an account permission problem. The company says that, during the described cloud or remote-connection condition, the app may not provide remote connection, cleaning history, supported map reports, supported i Series smart mapping, or software updates. Those effects are specific to iRobot’s guidance; other makers and models may behave differently. See iRobot’s explanation of the cloud-service message.

Check the home Wi-Fi where the robot docks

Confirm the router is online and that the robot’s dock is within useful Wi-Fi range. A phone connected to Wi-Fi elsewhere in the home does not prove that the signal is strong enough at the dock. If your Wi-Fi name or password changed recently, the robot may need to be connected again using the new credentials.

Do not assume all robot vacuums support the same Wi-Fi bands or security settings. Roborock’s troubleshooting guide discusses network setup and compatibility for its products, including a 5 GHz limitation for the device covered there. Check your model’s own requirements rather than applying that limitation to other brands.

Check app permissions and setup-network details

During setup, the app may need permission to discover devices on the local network. Roborock’s guide calls out Local Network permission on iOS 14 or later and location permission, and warns users to choose the home Wi-Fi rather than the robot’s temporary setup network. It also suggests disabling VPN or cellular service while troubleshooting setup. These are brand-specific recommendations; consult your maker’s instructions for the equivalent settings.

If you have an iPhone, review the app’s permissions in iOS Settings. On other phones, check the app’s permissions in the operating system’s settings. A permission problem can block discovery or setup even when the router and robot are working.

Reconnect the robot using its manufacturer’s instructions

If the robot used to work and your network is available, follow the documented reconnect procedure for the exact make and model. For an iRobot robot, the guide points to Product Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi. Other apps may use different labels or steps. Do not reset the robot’s Wi-Fi or factory-reset it by copying instructions for another model.

Reboot before considering a reset

A restart can clear a temporary connection problem without erasing setup. iRobot recommends rebooting the robot, router, and phone before factory resetting. Its guide describes taking the robot off the dock and holding CLEAN/POWER for roughly 20 seconds, but timing and button procedures can vary by model. Follow your robot’s manual rather than treating that sequence as universal. Eufy likewise recommends restarting the RoboVac and router as applicable in its offline troubleshooting guide.

Choose a fix based on the evidence

What you observe Likely area to check Useful next step
Robot does not respond to its buttons or appears not to charge Robot power, dock, or charging Check power and seating; follow the model’s charging and troubleshooting instructions.
Phone has no internet, or router is offline Phone or home internet Restore the phone or router connection before attempting robot setup again.
Network works, but Wi-Fi is weak at the dock Coverage near the robot Improve coverage only after confirming the weak signal is the problem.
Wi-Fi name or password changed Robot’s saved network credentials Reconnect it to the current home Wi-Fi using the maker’s instructions.
Phone and Wi-Fi work, but the manufacturer reports a service issue Manufacturer cloud Wait for service to return; repeated pairing attempts are unlikely to repair a cloud outage.
Robot and network seem available, but app setup or discovery fails App permissions, account, or setup procedure Check permissions and follow the exact model’s setup instructions.

A Wi-Fi range extender is worth considering only if coverage is weak at the dock. It cannot fix a cloud outage, account or app-permission issue, or a robot without power.

When to contact manufacturer support

If the robot remains offline after the relevant checks and a model-appropriate restart, contact the manufacturer. Provide details that help support distinguish a power, network, app, and service problem:

  • Robot make and model
  • App version and phone operating-system version
  • The exact error message and when the problem began
  • Whether the robot charges and responds to onboard controls
  • Any recent router, Wi-Fi name, or password changes
  • The troubleshooting steps you have already tried

For additional brand-specific steps, consult iRobot’s connectivity guide, Roborock’s offline guide, or Eufy’s offline guide as applicable to your robot.
