Then review Active hours, notifications and the privacy permissions that matter to you. These checks help you confirm the PC is ready and that its behavior suits you; an update does not necessarily reset these settings.
1. Confirm that the update is finished
Open Settings > Windows Update. Check for a restart request or another update action. Some updates need a restart to finish installing, and Windows Update provides restart and scheduling controls. See Microsoft’s Windows Update FAQ for details.
2. Check when Windows can restart
Active hours help Windows avoid restarting at inconvenient times for updates. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Active hours. Choose automatic adjustment based on activity or set the hours manually to match when you usually use the PC. Microsoft explains the options in Keep your PC up to date with active hours.
3. Review notifications and Do Not Disturb
Open Settings > System > Notifications. You can review which apps show banners, appear in Notification Center, play sounds or display notifications on the lock screen. Check app priorities and the conditions for automatically enabling Do Not Disturb, too.
One documented condition is to turn on Do Not Disturb for the first hour after a Windows feature update. That may reduce interruptions, but it could also delay alerts you want to see. Review the setting against your own notification needs. Microsoft lists these controls in Notifications and Do Not Disturb in Windows.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
4. Check the privacy permissions you use
Under Settings > Privacy & security, review relevant permissions such as location, camera, microphone, calendar and contacts. Consider which apps need each capability and adjust access accordingly. Microsoft says you can review and change privacy settings at any time in its guide to Windows privacy settings that apps use.
These controls are not a complete audit of every program: Microsoft notes that desktop apps might not appear in the listed controls and can access some data differently from Store apps.

5. If a setting or label is missing
Windows 11 setting names and paths can vary by version. Microsoft documents a transition on newer Windows 11 versions from the General privacy page to Recommendations & offers. If a guide’s path does not match your screen, search within Settings or look for the current category label; a missing label by itself does not mean something is wrong. See Microsoft’s notes on General privacy settings in Windows and Exploring Windows Settings.

6. Check other settings only if something changed
If the update coincided with a visible change or disrupted a particular workflow, review the relevant Settings area—for example, display, power, storage, accessibility or accounts. These are useful troubleshooting checks, not a required audit after every update. Microsoft’s overview of Windows Settings describes the available categories.
