Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo manage a child’s Fortnite spending, chat, and playtime, open Parental Controls from Fortnite’s main menu or sign in to the child’s Epic Games account and open Parental Controls. Set a six-digit PIN, then choose the restrictions you want. Epic account limits and console or device controls are separate, so configure both where needed.
Before you change Fortnite’s parental controls
Make sure you are signed in to the Epic Games account the child actually uses in Fortnite. If the child plays on a console, Epic recommends checking that the account on the website is the same one linked to the game; compare the account IDs if you are unsure. See Epic’s Parental Controls guidance.

Epic’s setup uses a six-digit PIN. The PIN protects access to the control settings; it does not automatically restrict play or purchases. The restrictions come from the individual settings you select. Epic says the PIN cannot be removed once set, although individual restrictions can be switched off later.
Set spending limits and purchase controls
- Sign in to the child’s Epic Games account, or open Fortnite’s main menu.
- Open Parental Controls. On the Epic Games website, this is a tab in the account settings.
- Set or enter the six-digit PIN when prompted.
- Review the available purchase and spending options, choose the settings you want, and save them.
Epic says purchases above the configured account spending limit are blocked. Its published guidance does not specify one universal limit amount or a fixed set of choices that applies to every account, platform, and region. Open the account controls to see the options available for this account. Some settings control which options a child can use rather than directly setting a specific value. See Epic’s instructions for changing parental-control settings.

Epic account controls do not replace payment restrictions on the platform used to play or make a purchase. A purchase billed through a console or mobile store may be governed by that platform’s payment controls. For Epic purchases on a Windows PC, Epic suggests removing stored payment methods. Use the relevant platform’s family or parental-control settings as an additional layer; Epic links to guidance for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Windows PC, Android, and iPhone.
Set Fortnite playtime limits
Epic Time Limit Controls can set a total daily playtime allowance, allowed play windows, and separate limits and schedules for Play and Create. Parents can also choose whether the child may request more time. These controls apply to Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). Follow Epic’s time-limit setup instructions.

Epic defines Play Time as playing Fortnite experiences. Create Time covers creating in Fortnite Creative or UEFN and playtesting unpublished UEFN islands. If Play and Create have separate limits, using up Play Time does not necessarily prevent the child from creating; Create Time has its own allowance.
Epic’s time limits follow the child’s account across consoles and devices. Console and device screen-time controls are separate and can further restrict use. For example, a device schedule may prevent play even when Fortnite’s account-level time remains.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Configure console, computer, and mobile controls separately
Use platform-level controls for device screen time and payments in addition to Epic’s Fortnite settings. The available controls and steps depend on the platform. Epic’s platform guidance includes instructions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Windows PC, Android, and iPhone. On Android, native parental-control features vary by device; Epic points to Google Family Link as a screen-time option.
Think of the two control layers this way:
| Control layer | What it can manage | Where to configure it |
|---|---|---|
| Epic account | Fortnite spending and chat settings; Fortnite and UEFN time limits that follow the account across devices. | Fortnite’s main-menu Parental Controls or the child’s Epic Games account settings. |
| Console or device | Platform-level payment and screen-time restrictions, which can add limits beyond Epic’s settings. | The family or parental-control settings for the console, computer, or mobile device. |
Check for a Cabined Account if settings or features are unavailable
A child’s Epic account may be a Cabined Account while it waits for parental consent. In that state, real-money purchases and voice or free-text chat are disabled. Epic says this can apply when the child is under 13 or below the region’s age of digital consent, whichever age is higher. Complete the account setup and consent process to make the account’s eligible features available. See Epic’s Cabined Accounts information.

If a restriction is not working as expected
- Confirm the account: Check that the website and Fortnite use the same Epic account, especially on console.
- Check the selected setting: A PIN protects the controls but does not impose limits by itself; confirm the relevant restriction is enabled.
- Identify who processes the purchase: Epic account controls and the console or mobile store’s payment controls are separate. Set a restriction in the layer that applies to the purchase.
- Review time categories: Play and Create can have separate allowances, so one may remain available after the other runs out.
- Check consent status: A Cabined Account can make purchases and chat unavailable until a parent completes consent.
