Start with THE FINALS’ Cashout tutorial, then practice in the range and against bots before moving into Quickplay. The key is to play for the cashout—not chase eliminations for their own sake—and to use gadgets, teamwork, and the changing arena to help secure or disrupt the objective.
Follow this beginner route
- Complete the Cashout tutorial. It introduces vaults, cashboxes, and cashout stations. You can replay it from the game-mode menu. Embark’s tutorial guidance describes the tutorial and other beginner tools.
- Visit the Practice Range. Every available specialization, weapon, and gadget is available to try there, alongside aim and objective-oriented challenges. Use it to learn how equipment handles and what each tool does before deciding whether a loadout suits you.
- Play Cashout (Bots). Embark recommends this mode for new players who want to learn objectives, maps, and mechanics against AI. You can play solo or with other players.
- Move to Quickplay when ready. It is a lower-pressure way to practice against other players. Try Core Cashout or Ranked Cashout when you are ready for modes with limited respawns and more consequential lives.
These steps and mode descriptions come from Embark’s Help Center, whose beginner and mode guidance was updated in 2026.
Understand what Cashout asks you to do
In Quick Cash, three teams of three retrieve a cashbox from a vault and put it into a cashout station. A timer then runs while teams contest control. The team controlling the station when time expires receives the cash value. Weapons, gadgets, and arena objects can all help interrupt opponents.
Think in terms of the objective: secure a station, defend it, steal it, or disrupt the team holding it. Eliminations matter when they help accomplish one of those jobs; they are not a substitute for playing the objective.

Use Quickplay to learn, then protect lives in Core modes
Quickplay modes have infinite respawns, while Core modes have limited respawns, according to Embark’s mode guide. Ranked Cashout uses limited spawn tokens, so each life is especially valuable there. Treat Quickplay as practice; in Cashout and Ranked Cashout, make a deliberate choice before taking a risky fight.
Choose a role and build a useful loadout
A custom loadout has one specialization, one weapon, and three gadgets. You can keep four additional items in reserve and swap them at specific moments, such as after an elimination or between tournament rounds. Embark’s loadout guide explains the equipment structure and reserve items.

Start with a Playstyle template
Playstyles are prebuilt combinations intended to make it easier to begin without assembling every piece yourself. Embark lists 11 Playstyles. New players start with three unlocked, receive an early token for a fourth, and earn more tokens during their first 20 rounds. You can try different styles rather than committing permanently.
- Scout (Light): built around tracking and long-range combat.
- Hacker (Medium): built around breaching and disabling defenses.
- Demolisher (Heavy): built around disruptive destruction.
These are examples of intended roles, not a ranking of which build is strongest. The official descriptions are in Embark’s Playstyles guide.

Compare builds by what they let you contribute
When choosing a style, consider your preferred fighting distance and movement, what utility you bring to teammates, whether your tools defend or breach, and how directly your build helps secure or disrupt a cashout. Pick one build and use it long enough to understand its core tools. Then change one or two items at a time so you can tell what the adjustment does.
Learn why a gadget is useful rather than relying on its name. Loadout tools can support mobility, revives, enemy information, protection, or destruction. Practice using each for a purpose that advances the objective.

Make teamwork count before your aim is sharp
Embark’s first-match advice emphasizes coordinating around objectives, reviving teammates, and sharing information. You do not need to win every duel to help your team: stay near the current objective, communicate what you see, and look for safe opportunities to support a teammate or contest the station.
- Check your controls and settings before queueing so movement and actions feel comfortable.
- Stay aware of what your team is contesting rather than starting an unrelated fight.
- Revive teammates when it is safe and useful to the objective.
- Share useful information about opponents or the situation around the cashout.
- Expect early matches to be practice: use them to learn maps, strategies, and which loadout fits you.
Embark’s THE FINALS Academy also offers optional lessons on teamwork, attacking and defending objectives, contestant roles, and Cashout mechanics. Rookie Contracts guide new players through tasks such as completing the tutorial, trying Light, Medium, and Heavy, playing modes, and reviving teammates.

Use destruction to rethink routes and cover
THE FINALS is built around arenas that can be reshaped. PlayStation’s official game page describes teams destroying walls, ceilings, and buildings to surprise opponents. As the match develops, pay attention to whether nearby cover, routes, or the structure around the cashout has changed. An approach that was safe earlier may no longer be protected, and a new opening may alter how teams reach the station.
Do not assume every structure can be destroyed in every situation. Treat the arena as something to observe and adapt to, rather than relying on one fixed route or a tactic that may not fit the map.
Keep the first session simple
THE FINALS is listed as free-to-play on PlayStation, and its built-in tutorial, range, and bot mode provide a no-purchase path to learning the basics. If you already use a PS5 and want customizable controls, PlayStation describes the DualSense Edge as offering remappable buttons, tunable triggers and sticks, and interchangeable stick caps. That is an optional controller feature, not a requirement or an established performance advantage in THE FINALS.
