Then check whether the problem affects one website or many, and compare Safari with another browser, device, or network. Those checks help distinguish a site problem from a Safari setting, device, or connection issue.
First, find out whether one site or many are affected
Reload the page, then try the same address in another browser or on another device using the same network. On an iPhone or iPad, also try cellular data or a different Wi‑Fi network. These comparisons narrow down where to look; none proves the cause on its own.
- One site fails, but other sites work: Check that site’s stored data, compatibility, privacy settings, and any filtering tools. The website itself may also be having a problem.
- Several sites fail in Safari: Check Safari, device software, extensions, and network settings. Try another browser to see whether the problem is Safari-specific.
- Several devices and browsers fail on the same network: Investigate the network or the affected website. Apple says a site is probably the cause when the issue occurs across other devices and browsers on the same network.

Fix Safari on a Mac
1. Reload Safari and update macOS
- In Safari, press Command-R to reload the page.
- If Safari is stuck, quit and reopen it. Use Force Quit only if it will not quit normally.
- Install available macOS updates, then restart your Mac.
2. Check whether an extension is interfering
Temporarily turn off Safari extensions and reload the page. If it now displays correctly, update your extensions if updates are available, then turn them back on one at a time. Reload after each change to identify a conflict.

3. Compare normal and Private Browsing
Open the affected site in a private window. If it works there but not in a regular window, the site’s saved data may be involved. In Safari, go to Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data (the label may be Preferences on older macOS versions), find the affected site, and remove its data. This can sign you out of the site, so make sure you know your sign-in details first.
4. Review settings that affect the site
Check Safari’s Privacy, Security, Websites, and Advanced settings for options relevant to the broken page. Depending on the site, JavaScript, cookies, pop-ups, downloads, or permissions may be needed. A content blocker or privacy protection may also affect how the page appears.

Change only the setting relevant to the problem, then reload the page. Restore privacy protections or other settings you changed once the test is complete.
5. Test Private Relay, VPN, or security software
Some sites use IP filtering, monitoring, or rate-limiting, which can interfere with iCloud Private Relay. If the option is available, use View > Reload and Show IP Address as a temporary test. You can also temporarily test whether a VPN or security software is affecting the connection. Turn protections back on after testing unless you have a separate reason to change them.

Apple explains the site-specific Private Relay test in Manage iCloud Private Relay for specific websites, networks or system settings.
6. Compare another network or report the site
Try another browser or network. If the issue appears across devices and browsers on one network, custom proxy or DNS settings may be relevant. If only one site remains broken after local checks, contact its developer. On a Mac with Safari 26 or later, reload the page and, if available, choose Page Menu > Report a Website Issue.

Fix Safari on an iPhone or iPad
1. Try a different connection
Open the page using cellular data instead of Wi‑Fi, or connect to another Wi‑Fi network. If it works on one connection but not the other, focus on the connection or its network settings.
2. Check VPN and restart the device
Check whether a VPN is active. Some websites or apps may block content while a VPN is on. Temporarily test without it, then restart your iPhone or iPad and try the page again.

3. Clear Safari history and website data if needed
Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. This is a broad step: unlike removing a single site’s data on a Mac, it can affect browsing history and website state.
4. Make sure JavaScript is enabled
Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced and turn on JavaScript if it is off. Some websites need JavaScript to load or display correctly.
5. Test Private Relay for a site-specific problem
If one site is still affected, test whether it works when allowed to see your IP address, then restore your preferred privacy setting. Apple notes that sites using IP filtering, monitoring, or rate-limiting may not work with Private Relay. If the site remains broken, contact its developer.
