To limit personalization on a Fire TV Stick, turn off Device Usage Data at Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings > Device Usage Data. This setting does not remove every recommendation or ad. If you also want to limit interest-based advertising, turn off Interest-based Ads separately in Privacy Settings.
Turn off Device Usage Data
- From the Fire TV home screen, open Settings.
- Select Preferences, then Privacy Settings.
- Select Device Usage Data and turn it off.
Amazon says this opts out of processing data about how you use the Fire TV operating system for customized marketing offers and product improvement. The setting is device-specific. Amazon’s general Fire TV privacy FAQ does not map menu differences by Stick generation, Fire OS version, or region; if your labels differ, look for the corresponding privacy setting. Limit interest-based ads separately
- Return to Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings.
- Select Interest-based Ads and turn it off.
This setting is separate from Device Usage Data. Amazon says the advertising ID can be available to apps on certain Amazon devices for advertising and analytics; this Fire TV control instructs apps using that ID not to build advertising profiles or target you with interest-based ads on the device. Turning off Device Usage Data does not itself stop interest-based advertising based on other data.

What turning these settings off does not guarantee
These controls have limited, distinct scopes; they are not a master switch for recommendations, ads, or personalization. Amazon says turning off Device Usage Data does not affect data processing for Amazon services such as Prime Video, interest-based advertising based on data other than device usage data, or whether marketing offers appear. The cited Amazon guidance does not establish a universal setting that removes every recommendation row.
