If The Relic: First Guardian crashes, will not launch, or opens to a black screen on PC, start by updating the game and checking its current Steam requirements. Then try Steam’s general launch troubleshooting steps—restart, update Windows and graphics drivers, verify the game files, and temporarily close non-essential background software. These are diagnostic checks, not confirmed fixes for every issue in this game.
Start with the game update and current requirements
The Relic: First Guardian has continued to receive technical updates. The Steam store page showed Patch 18 live on September 18, 2026; check the Steam store page and the game’s latest official announcements for newer changes before following older advice. A patch may address particular problems, but its release does not establish that every startup crash or black screen is fixed.
Compare your PC with the requirements currently displayed on Steam. The listing specifies a 64-bit processor and operating system, Intel i5-11400 or Ryzen 7 4800H, and 16 GB RAM at minimum. Recommended processors are Intel i5-12650H or Ryzen 7 5800, also with 16 GB RAM. Check the live listing for the complete, current specification; meeting minimum requirements is a compatibility baseline, not a guarantee against crashes.
Try these reversible launch checks
Steam recommends the following general steps for games that fail to launch. They are not documented as guaranteed, game-specific cures for The Relic: First Guardian.

- Let pending downloads finish. In Steam, open Downloads and wait for the game update to complete before launching. Check the game’s official news for current patch notes.
- Restart the PC. This clears temporary system or process issues. After restarting, try launching the game before reopening non-essential apps.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver. Install available updates using Windows Update and the appropriate official graphics-driver source for your GPU. Restart if requested.
- Verify the installed game files. In Steam, open Library, right-click The Relic: First Guardian, choose Properties, select Installed Files, then click Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the check to finish and retry.
- Temporarily close non-essential background software. Steam includes background-software conflicts among general launch troubleshooting possibilities. Close non-essential apps for one test, then restore them. Do not leave security protection disabled.

If Steam says the game is already running
An “already running” message can appear after a game closes improperly or crashes silently. Open Task Manager and look for a stuck The Relic: First Guardian process. If one is present, select it and choose End task, then try starting the game again. If the message persists, verify the game files using the Steam steps above. Steam describes this as general troubleshooting for that error, not a title-specific diagnosis.

If the game opens to a black screen or crashes in-game
First distinguish a startup black screen from a loading problem after the game has launched. The publisher’s Patch 6 notes, published August 5, 2026, say it fixed a loading interaction with spawn points and partially resolved frame drops during large-scale battles in Chapter 2. Patch 7, published August 7, 2026, reports a fix for a loading issue that prevented entry into the Sanctum of the Stepped Aside. Those notes cover specific in-game loading or performance issues; they do not confirm a general startup black-screen fix.
No reviewed official source identifies one cause for all launch failures, crashes, or black screens, or confirms a universal fix for them. Avoid deleting save folders or configuration files as an early troubleshooting step: a surfaced article from Relic Entertainment applies to that company’s games, not this game from Project Cloud Games.

Gather details before contacting support
If the checks do not help, record what happens and share useful system details when contacting the game’s support team. This can help distinguish a crash, a display problem, and a Steam launch error.
- Whether the game exits immediately, stays on a black screen, or produces a Steam error message.
- Your Windows version, CPU and GPU models, graphics-driver versions, and game version.
- The exact error text and the step at which the problem occurs.
- Whether the issue began after an update or occurs consistently.
Project Cloud Games’ development team acknowledged launch shortcomings in a statement published by Perp Games on August 6, 2026: “The launch did not meet the standard of experience we intended to deliver.” That statement and the subsequent patches provide context for the ongoing technical work, but they do not identify a specific remedy for an individual PC problem.
