For most MX Master 4 owners, Logi Options+ is the safer default: Logitech lists the mouse as supported and documents its Actions Ring, Marketplace and haptics features. Consider OpenLogi if Linux support, local TOML configuration or its documented customization options matter more to you—and you are comfortable with a project that says it is still under active development and not yet stable. Don’t run both at once: OpenLogi says the apps compete for HID++ access.
How do OpenLogi and Logi Options+ differ?
Logi Options+ is Logitech’s official customization app. OpenLogi is an independent project that describes itself as a local-first alternative and says it is not affiliated with Logitech. Their documented features overlap, but the available information does not establish that they offer feature parity or that one performs better or is more reliable.
| Decision | Logi Options+ | OpenLogi |
|---|---|---|
| MX Master 4 support | Logitech lists the mouse as supported. Logitech’s Options+ page | The project documents MX Master 4 support, including the Haptic Sense Panel. OpenLogi documentation |
| Documented features | Actions Ring and Marketplace are advertised for MX devices, subject to listed exceptions; haptics are described as currently available with MX Master 4. Logitech’s Options+ page | Documents remapping, DPI, SmartShift, scrolling, per-app bindings, gestures, thumb-wheel controls and lighting. These are project claims, not independent test results. OpenLogi documentation |
| Platforms | The U.S. download page lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 14 or later. Logitech’s Options+ page | The project lists macOS, Linux and Windows; it describes Linux as a first-class platform and says Windows support is newer than its macOS build. OpenLogi documentation OpenLogi repository |
| Configuration and privacy | The consulted Logitech page does not establish a comparable local-only guarantee. Logitech’s Options+ page | The project says it requires no account or telemetry and stores bindings in a local TOML file. Those are project statements, not an independent privacy audit. OpenLogi documentation |
| Stability | Presented by Logitech as its supported customization app. Logitech’s Options+ page | Described by its developers as actively developed and not yet stable; features and configuration may change. OpenLogi documentation |
| Use at the same time? | No. OpenLogi says the apps compete for HID++ access and only one can own a receiver at a time. OpenLogi documentation | |
When should you choose Logi Options+?
Choose Options+ if you want Logitech’s official software path for the MX Master 4, especially if the Actions Ring or Logitech-documented haptics features are important. Logitech’s U.S. page lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 14 or later; requirements and availability may differ elsewhere, so check the download page for your region and system.
If you want Windows 11 native haptics
Logitech announced on May 20, 2026 that an Options+ firmware update enables MX Master 4 native haptic feedback for selected Windows 11 actions. Its examples include aligning objects in PowerPoint and snapping or resizing windows. Logitech described this as requiring the latest updated Windows 11 version and said additional effects would roll out. See Logitech’s May 20, 2026 announcement for the dated details; it does not establish every later Windows or firmware change.

When is OpenLogi worth considering?
OpenLogi may suit you if you use Linux, prefer configuration in a local TOML file, or want to try the customizations its documentation describes. The project says it communicates with compatible Logitech HID++ devices through Logi Bolt, Unifying and Lightspeed receivers, Bluetooth-direct connections or USB. Check the current release notes and compatibility details for your device and operating system before installing.
Understand the stability trade-off
OpenLogi’s documentation identifies v0.8.11 as the published release baseline and says its documentation was updated October 3, 2026. The same documentation warns that the project is under active development and not yet stable, so features and configuration may change. Its repository says Windows support is newer than the macOS build. Treat all capabilities and platform statements as the project’s own documentation, rather than independently verified compatibility or performance findings.

How to switch between the apps safely
- Quit the app currently controlling the mouse. If you are moving from Options+ to OpenLogi, exit Options+ first; OpenLogi says they compete for HID++ access.
- Check for another controller. OpenLogi’s documentation says Linux users should also account for Solaar, which can create the same receiver-ownership conflict.
- Launch only the app you intend to use. The documentation says only one app can own a receiver at a time. It does not establish that simultaneous use is supported.
Which MX Master 4 app should you use?
Start with Logi Options+ if official Logitech support and its documented feature path are your priorities. Consider OpenLogi for Linux, local configuration or its documented controls if you accept its stated stability caveat. There is no basis here for calling either app universally faster, more reliable or better: choose for your operating system and needs, and keep only one active controller for the receiver.
