The Relic: First Guardian is a dark action RPG from Project Cloud Games, published by Perp Games. Set in the ruined realm of Arsilthus, it combines stamina-free attacks with stamina-consuming defense, weapon-based builds, and a story told through the memories and tragedies of people who disappeared. It is listed for PC, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S; platform availability and store details vary by region.
What is The Relic: First Guardian?
The game takes place in Arsilthus, a fallen fantasy world shaped by Korean folklore and ancient mythology, according to its Steam description. Rather than presenting the player as a celebrated hero, the developers describe the protagonist as a keeper of stories, uncovering the memories and wishes attached to the people who vanished.

Creative Director Inhyuk Park described the intended tone as “an old folktale told by a grandfather to a child; gentle, lingering, and quietly profound.” That is the studio’s creative aim, not an independent assessment of the finished game’s tone. The developer’s PlayStation Blog feature frames each boss encounter as a separate folktale, with examples including a starving father transformed into a monster, rage born from a broken promise, and a soul that has lost its name.
How combat and progression work
Attacks do not spend stamina
The developer says attacks consume no stamina; stamina is instead used for defensive actions such as dodging. Skills operate on cooldowns. This design description suggests a deliberate contrast between keeping up offense and managing defensive resources, but it is not a hands-on measure of combat feel or difficulty.
#1 Best Overall
- Fast Paced Brutal Combat - The Relic approaches combat differently - delivering freedom in attack, intensity in survival. Unleash an unstoppable onslaught with attacks that cost zero resources, allowing you to strike continuously with relentless creativity and consistency. Your stamina gauge is reserved strictly for high-stakes defence like dodging and blocking, while high-power magic operates on cooldowns and a dedicated meter. Attack without limits, defend with absolute precision.
- Explore a Shattered, Semi-Open World - Traverse a vast, interconnected realm filled with forgotten ruins, hidden dungeons, and atmospheric landscapes. The world of Arsilthus rewards curious Guardians who venture off the beaten path with ancient artifacts, secret encounters, and pieces of lost lore buried deep within its ruined regions.
- Confront Up to 80 Tragic Bosses - Step into battle against up to 80 mythic encounters - each a dark, standalone folktale brought to life, bound to a tragic lore that can only be laid to rest through ultimate victory. Adapt or perish: no two legends fight alike, and a strategy that slays one nightmare offers no guarantee of surviving the next.
- Weapons Woven with Narrative - Command five distinct weapon masteries: Sword & Shield, Battle Staff, Daggers, Two-Handed Weapons, or the Longsword. Without a single duplicate weapon to be found - every single item is a bespoke, one-of-a-kind creation with its own tragic history. Discovering a new blade means uncovering a piece of the world's past, transforming your arsenal into a personal collection of living legends.
- Master Ancient Weapon Skill Trees - Forge a deeper bond with your chosen armoury through specialised skill trees powered by relic energy. Channel forgotten power into game-changing passives alongside awe-striking, visually spectacular ultimate abilities.
Five weapon styles shape your approach
Steam names five weapon types: Sword & Shield, Battle Staff, Daggers, Two-Handed Weapons, and Longsword. The developer says each has its own combat rhythm and twelve exclusive skill trees. It also describes every weapon and armor item as unique in the game world, so equipment is part of the build system rather than merely a visual choice.
Builds grow through relics and gear, not character levels
“There are no character levels in this world,” Park said. Instead, the developer describes growth through relics—also called runes in its blog—and equipment. Relics are fragments tied to the feelings and wishes of people from the world. The studio says each relic carries over 70 passive effects; that is a claim about effects, not a count of relic items. Store copy also describes crafting and gear-based build changes.

World exploration and the boss-count discrepancy
Store descriptions present Arsilthus as a semi-open or interconnected realm with exploration, dungeons, and hidden lore. Bosses are central to the story structure, but published descriptions do not give one reconciled count: Park’s December 2025 feature says “more than 70 bosses,” while the current Steam and PlayStation descriptions say “up to 80.” Those are differently worded claims from different dates, not a verified exact total.
