Usually, no—not if your Wi-Fi 6 router already delivers the speed and coverage you need. The TP-Link Archer BE3600 is worth considering when you need its 2.5GbE ports, have Wi-Fi 7-capable devices, or are replacing a router that is falling short. But it is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 model without 6 GHz, and independent tests found its throughput dropped at longer distances. Decide by your devices, wired network, home layout, and the router’s current price—not the Wi-Fi generation number alone.
What the Archer BE3600 offers—and what its name means
TP-Link describes the Archer BE3600 as a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router. Its maximum listed physical rates are 2,882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are theoretical link rates, not promises of application speed or whole-home coverage. The router also supports features including Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs, subject to compatible client devices. TP-Link’s specifications and datasheet list those capabilities.
In some markets, the model is sold as the Archer BE230. RTINGS identifies its tested BE230 as also known as BE3600, and TechRadar refers to the BE230 name during setup. Check the exact regional SKU and product page: the available evidence does not establish that every regional hardware or firmware version is identical. RTINGS’ review and TechRadar’s review use the BE230 name.
Does the Archer BE3600 have 6 GHz?
No. It operates on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz only. That makes it a different proposition from a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 router, which may provide a 6 GHz band. If access to 6 GHz is one of the reasons you want to upgrade, compare another model rather than assuming every Wi-Fi 7 router includes it. Tom’s Hardware, TechRadar and RTINGS each note the BE3600/BE230’s lack of 6 GHz. Tom’s Hardware’s review is one source for the model’s test and feature context.

Nor does the Wi-Fi 7 label make its Wi-Fi 7 features available to older clients. TP-Link says that using features such as MLO, 4K-QAM, Multi-RUs, OFDMA and MU-MIMO requires client support for the corresponding features. A Wi-Fi 6 phone or laptop remains a Wi-Fi 6 client when connected to this router; it does not gain Wi-Fi 7 capabilities just because the router supports them. TP-Link also cautions in its datasheet that the router may not support all mandatory features as ratified in IEEE 802.11be.
What independent tests say about speed and range
Tom’s Hardware tested a review unit running firmware 1.1.0 Build 20240729 using its own iPerf3 and ping setup. Its results show why a single maximum-rate figure is not enough to predict performance around a home:

These are results for that outlet’s equipment, firmware, test locations and conditions—not expected speeds in every home. Tom’s Hardware characterized the performance as mixed. RTINGS likewise reports strong performance close to the router and a significant decline at longer distances. RTINGS says it removed its Wi-Fi coverage tests while exploring better ways to present the results, so its review should not be read as providing a current coverage map.
If a distant room is the main problem, consider placement and a compatible EasyMesh router or extender as well as replacing the primary router. TP-Link lists EasyMesh support, and RTINGS notes it as a possible way to improve performance in far parts of a home. Confirm that the specific mesh device and firmware are compatible; adding a mesh node does not give the BE3600 a 6 GHz radio. TP-Link’s EasyMesh information describes its compatibility approach.

When its wired ports make an upgrade worthwhile
The BE3600 has one 2.5 Gbps WAN port, one 2.5 Gbps LAN port, three 1 Gbps LAN ports and a USB 3.0 port, according to TP-Link’s port specifications. The multi-gigabit ports can matter if your internet service exceeds 1 Gbps or you have a wired device with a 2.5GbE connection. To realize those speeds, the service plan, modem or other upstream equipment, connected device and cable must all support the link. A 2.5GbE WAN port cannot increase the speed delivered by an internet plan.
For latency-sensitive gaming, Ethernet is a practical choice when available. RTINGS considers the router suitable for casual gaming and suggests its 2.5Gbps LAN port for competitive play and stability. This is a reason to value the wired port, not a guarantee of lower latency in every network.

How to decide whether to upgrade
Upgrade if you have a specific need the BE3600 solves
- Your current router is failing or no longer provides adequate speed or coverage.
- You have Wi-Fi 7-capable clients and want to use supported Wi-Fi 7 features.
- You need a 2.5GbE WAN or LAN connection for compatible service or wired equipment.
- The current price makes its capabilities a good fit for your needs.
Keep a satisfactory Wi-Fi 6 router if nothing is missing
If your Wi-Fi 6 router already handles your household’s speed and coverage, most devices do not support Wi-Fi 7 features, and you have no need for multi-gigabit Ethernet, the BE3600 may not provide a meaningful benefit. That is a practical conclusion from its feature set and client-compatibility requirements, not the result of a direct head-to-head test against every Wi-Fi 6 router.
Compare other models if you need 6 GHz or broader coverage
If 6 GHz access or performance across greater distances is a priority, compare tri-band Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 routers and mesh systems. Check their band count, price and independent test results at realistic distances; a generation label alone does not establish that one router will perform better in your home.

Compare the factors that affect your own network
- Band availability: The BE3600 has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but no 6 GHz.
- Client support: Identify which devices can use the Wi-Fi features you are paying for.
- Distance and obstacles: Compare independent results at distances resembling your home, and account for walls and building materials.
- Wired speeds: Match WAN and LAN capabilities to your internet service and wired devices.
- Total cost: Include any mesh node you may need and any paid services you intend to use.
TP-Link lists HomeShield security and parental-control features, but its datasheet says advanced HomeShield features require a paid subscription. Do not assume every advertised feature is included at no cost.
Bottom line: a targeted upgrade, not a default Wi-Fi 6 replacement
The Archer BE3600 is a sensible option when its 2.5GbE ports, compatible Wi-Fi 7 features or replacement value address a real need. It is not an automatic upgrade from a Wi-Fi 6 router that already works well. Its dual-band design, lack of 6 GHz and test-reported decline at longer distances are important trade-offs; check the local model and current price before choosing.
