Most phones do not have a universal touchscreen calibration setting. Start by cleaning and drying the screen, removing anything that could interfere with touch, and restarting the phone. Then check whether the problem is limited to one app, test the display using your phone maker’s instructions, and use a calibration procedure only if the instructions for your exact model provide one. Xiaomi documents calibration on some models; that guidance does not apply to Android phones generally.
Before you start: identify the phone and the problem
Menu names and available diagnostics vary by make, model, and software version. Note the phone’s exact model, then describe what happens: missed taps, touches registering in the wrong place, an overly sensitive screen, or a repeatable area that does not respond. This helps distinguish a setting or accessory issue from a possible display fault.
There is no general Android, Pixel, Samsung, Apple, or ASUS calibration menu documented in the support instructions cited here. Those manufacturers mainly recommend troubleshooting, sensitivity settings, or diagnostics. Calibration is specifically described as an option for some Xiaomi models.
Try these safe checks first
- Clean and dry the screen. Gently wipe it with a soft, clean cloth, and make sure your fingers are dry. Samsung recommends a microfiber cloth for gently wiping a wet device. Cleaning may remove an obstruction, but it is not a repair for a damaged display.
- Remove possible sources of interference. Temporarily take off the case and screen protector, and remove stickers or gloves that might affect touch. Some screen protectors cannot be reapplied after removal, so check before peeling one off. On an iPhone or iPad, disconnect Lightning or USB-C accessories while testing.
- Restart and retest. Try the same action that was failing. If the problem occurs only in one app, update the app or contact its developer rather than treating the entire screen as miscalibrated.
- Check for damage. If the display is cracked or the problem began after physical damage, contact the manufacturer or a repair provider instead of relying on a setting to fix it.
Check whether touch fails in one place or across the screen
Use Android’s drag test
Google’s Android troubleshooting guidance recommends slowly dragging a finger from the upper-left to the lower-right corner without lifting it. If the gesture releases twice at the same location, note where it happens and contact the phone manufacturer. A repeatable dropout at one spot is useful evidence of a location-specific problem; it does not by itself identify the cause.

Test for an app-related problem
On Android, use the phone maker’s instructions to start in Safe mode and try the screen again. If touch works normally there, a third-party app may be involved, particularly one installed shortly before the problem began. Google and ASUS recommend Safe mode as a way to check for app-related issues. The steps for entering Safe mode differ by device.

Use only settings and diagnostics made for your model

Pixel sensitivity and diagnostics
On supported Pixel 9 models, Adaptive touch is a sensitivity option, while Touch diagnostics checks the screen. These serve different purposes: changing how the screen responds is not the same as diagnosing a fault. On Pixel 8a and earlier, Google describes Screen protector mode as a setting to check. Because menus can change with model and software, use Google’s instructions for the specific Pixel rather than assuming every Pixel has the same options.
Xiaomi calibration
If your Xiaomi model’s official instructions offer calibration, follow that model’s CIT diagnostic flow and its on-screen prompts. Xiaomi’s FAQ describes entering diagnostics with dialer codes, performing a swipe test, and calibrating on some models. Do not try those codes as a general Android fix or assume they are available on every Xiaomi phone. If the test or calibration fails, Xiaomi advises updating, backing up and resetting, or seeking service, depending on the result.

Samsung and ASUS sensitivity modes
On a Galaxy phone, Touch sensitivity is intended to help in some cases when a screen protector is fitted; leave it off if you do not need it, since Samsung warns that touch may become too sensitive without a film. On an applicable ASUS device, disable Glove mode for normal use. These settings alter touch behavior; they do not establish that a damaged screen has been repaired.

Contact the manufacturer or arrange service if a dead area is repeatable, the screen is physically damaged, or the manufacturer’s diagnostic reports a problem or cannot complete successfully. A diagnostic can help identify a potential issue, but a sensitivity toggle or calibration step does not prove that a faulty digitizer has been repaired.

Factory reset is not touchscreen calibration. Treat it as a last troubleshooting step only after simpler checks and model-specific guidance have failed. Verify that your backup is complete first: a reset removes apps and data. Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, and ASUS include reset or reset-related guidance in their troubleshooting pathways, with backup and support caveats.
