The easiest early AION 2 mistakes to avoid are the ones that are hard to undo or costly to repeat: creating before coordinating with friends, choosing a class for a temporary ranking, and spending heavily on gear or resources you may soon replace. Make the group and character decisions first, set up controls for comfort, then use the main quest as your progression guide while checking current global rules for anything that can change with a patch.
Before creating a character, coordinate with friends
If you plan to play with friends, agree on faction and server before anyone creates a character. Unofficial beginner guides describe these choices as consequential and potentially difficult or unavailable to change, but the exact rules may vary by version. Check the current global client or official notices before treating a guide’s account as a live rule.
The practical mistake is assuming you can sort out the group later. Decide together where you want to play, then confirm the available choices in the character-creation flow. If playing together is not a priority, choose based on your own preference instead of delaying over a group decision you do not need to make.
Choose a class for its playstyle, not a tier list
A tier list is a snapshot of balance, build assumptions, and player goals. It cannot tell you whether you will enjoy a class over a long session. S4G’s pre-release guide reported finding no free class-change option in its research and described class as character-bound; that is not confirmation of the current global rules. Before committing, check whether class changes are now available in your version.

Use the role and feel you want as your starting point:
| What you want | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Durability | Look for a role that suits absorbing pressure and staying in the fight. |
| Ranged damage | Consider whether you enjoy attacking from range and managing positioning. |
| Support or healing | Think about whether helping a group is more appealing than focusing only on personal damage. |
| Specialized play | Check the class’s complexity and whether its mechanics sound enjoyable to learn. |
These are decision prompts, not class rankings. If solo and group play both matter to you, look for current class descriptions and patch notes that address those contexts rather than assuming one class is best at both.

Test controls and comfort settings early
Do not spend a long session fighting a control scheme that does not suit you. The beginner guides recommend trying both action and classic modes, then adjusting comfort and interface options before settling in. Neither mode is universally superior; judge by how accurately and comfortably you can move, target, and respond.
Review available settings such as potion auto-use, loot filtering, interface size, and visual options. Change one or two at a time, then play long enough to see whether the adjustment helps. These are workflow choices, not guarantees of better performance.

Use the main quest as your progression spine
For a straightforward early route, follow the main quest and use regional missions to fill progression gaps. This is the leveling approach recommended by the reviewed beginner guides, but it does not establish a fixed time to reach any level. Dialogue, optional activities, route choices, and the live version all affect pace.
Avoid the opposite extremes: abandoning the main route to clear every side activity, or refusing all side content even when you need more progression. Before taking a detour, ask whether it addresses a current need—such as a level gap—or offers a reward useful to your character now.

Do not overinvest in gear you are about to replace
Before enhancing an item, consider how soon your progression is likely to replace it and whether the upgrade meaningfully helps you now. An unofficial AION 2 Wiki guide relays a player’s report that enhancement and some stats transferred while some other investments did not. That is an individual account, not a universal guarantee about current transfer rules.
When the cost matters, check the live item and enhancement information before spending. If the next gear tier is close and the current item is adequate, saving currency or materials may be more useful than chasing a small temporary improvement.

Be selective with limited resources and timed activities
S4G advises conserving Odyle Energy during leveling and not interrupting the main route for every timed event. Treat those as guide recommendations, not verified rules for every current region or patch: check the live client for resource caps, costs, event rewards, and eligibility before deciding what to save or skip.
For an optional activity, weigh three things: how much it helps your current progression, what it costs in time or resources, and whether its reward will remain useful at your current stage. A time-limited event is not automatically worth abandoning a more important goal; likewise, an activity that fills a real gap may be worth the detour.
Practice flight and three-dimensional positioning
Flight is presented in an unofficial beginner guide as part of combat, exploration, and spatial control. Practice moving and dodging in three dimensions early, rather than treating flight only as a way to travel. The useful habit is learning how elevation and position affect your awareness and movement; the guides do not establish universal keybinds or performance advantages.
Check current patch notes before relying on old advice
Class balance and combat systems can change, so an old guide or tier list may no longer describe your version. NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 update announcement is a dated example: it described a class rebalance, new Stigma skills, up to five Stigma slots, Chaotic Abyss, Kina (Bound), and separate PvP/PvE damage calculations. That announcement predates global launch and should not be read as confirmation of the October 2026 live state.
