Choose the Kindle Colorsoft if your ebooks and reading subscriptions are centered on Amazon. Choose the Kobo Libra Colour if you want physical page-turn buttons or the option to write and draw with a compatible stylus. Neither is a proven universal winner: the best fit depends on your library and the controls you prefer.
Start with the store you already use
Kindle Colorsoft belongs to Amazon’s reading ecosystem; Libra Colour belongs to Kobo’s. If you have a substantial collection or subscription habit with one store, that is a practical reason to stay with its device. The available product information does not establish that purchases transfer freely between Amazon and Kobo, so check the catalog and services available in your country before switching ecosystems.
Library lending and subscription access can also vary by country, service, and local library. Confirm that the titles and services you rely on work with the specific device and account you plan to use.
Controls and handwriting: Libra Colour has the clearer distinction
Page-turn buttons
Kobo’s current US listing includes physical page-turn buttons on Libra Colour. That makes it worth considering if you prefer turning pages without tapping the screen. The available sources do not provide a matching control comparison for every Kindle Colorsoft generation, so this is not a claim that every Colorsoft lacks a particular control.

Optional stylus support
Kobo Help identifies Libra Colour as model N428 and says it has a stylus-compatible screen for writing and drawing with Kobo Stylus 2. Kobo announced that the stylus is sold separately, so include its additional cost only if handwritten notes or markup matter to you. The official help page describes the feature as: “Kobo Libra Colour features a colour screen, page turn buttons, and a stylus-compatible screen that lets you write and draw on your screen using Kobo Stylus 2.” (Kobo Help; Kobo’s launch announcement)
Display and storage: compare exact models, not just names
Kobo’s current US listing describes Libra Colour as having a 7-inch, glare-free color E Ink Kaleido 3 screen and 32 GB of storage. Kobo’s May 3, 2024 product update gives the announced Libra Colour model a resolution of 1264 × 1680, a 2050 mAh battery, and an IPX8 water-resistance rating. Those manufacturer specifications do not establish a direct performance comparison with a specific Colorsoft edition. (Kobo US product listing; Kobo product update)

Color E Ink remains an e-reader display, not a basis for assuming the screen will look like a phone or tablet. The available specifications do not establish which device produces better color, contrast, brightness, or refresh performance. A resolution or feature list alone cannot settle perceived screen quality.
Storage depends on the exact Kindle Colorsoft edition. Amazon identifies the original Colorsoft (1st Generation) as 16 GB and its Signature Edition as 32 GB; the 2026 standard and Signature editions are also listed at 16 GB and 32 GB, respectively. Kobo estimated that Libra Colour’s 32 GB could hold up to 24,000 ebooks or 150 Kobo Audiobooks in its 2024 launch announcement. That is Kobo’s capacity estimate, not an independent measurement. If you keep a large collection of comics, manga, or audiobooks on-device, compare the capacity of the specific editions you are considering.

Kobo’s US product listing displayed Libra Colour at $259.99 on October 7, 2026. That is a dated US listing price, not a global or guaranteed ongoing price. No authoritative live price for a specific Kindle Colorsoft generation was established alongside it, so there is no reliable matched price gap to report. Check both listings in your market, including bundles, taxes, and the separate cost of Kobo Stylus 2 if you want it.

Which one should you buy?
- Choose Kindle Colorsoft if your purchases, existing collection, or subscriptions are mainly tied to Amazon. Confirm the generation and edition, since Colorsoft storage differs by model.
- Choose Kobo Libra Colour if physical page-turn buttons are important or you want the option to write and draw with the separately sold Kobo Stylus 2.
- Compare locally before deciding if price, library lending, or a particular subscription is decisive. Availability and terms can vary by country, service, and library.
