Yes—but keeping True Tone and dependable touch response depends on the exact iPhone model, the replacement display, and whether the repair can be properly calibrated. Apple warns that non-genuine displays can cause Multi-Touch problems and that True Tone may not work correctly. A screen that lights up is not proof that all its functions have been preserved.
Why True Tone and touch can have different outcomes
True Tone and touch are separate display functions. True Tone adjusts the appearance of the screen to ambient lighting; touch depends on the display’s touch-sensing hardware and its compatibility with the iPhone. A replacement can show an image while still missing or misregistering touches, and True Tone may be unavailable or behave incorrectly. Apple lists both as possible issues with non-genuine displays in its iPhone display repair guidance.
Part authenticity alone does not guarantee that True Tone will work after every replacement. The repair process and software version can matter too. For example, iFixit’s iPhone 13 screen replacement guide says True Tone is disabled after replacement on iOS 17.6 and earlier, even when the replacement is an original Apple screen. On iOS 18 and newer, Repair Assistant can restore True Tone on genuine Apple displays purchased from Apple. This is model-specific guidance, not a universal rule for every iPhone.
Compare repair routes before choosing one
Apple identifies Apple Store and Apple Authorized Service Provider repairs, Apple Repair Centre service, Independent Repair Providers with access to genuine parts, and Self Service Repair for certain models and regions. Availability varies by location and model. Apple recommends trained technicians using genuine Apple display parts for most customers; see its display repair guidance and repair options.

Apple says a new Apple display may show “Finish Repair” until Repair Assistant completes the repair. On supported models, Parts and Service History in Settings > General > About may show statuses such as Genuine, Used, Unknown, or Finish Repair, depending on the device, part, and repair state.
DIY repairs need exact-model instructions
A screen replacement is not just a matter of disconnecting one panel and attaching another. Parts, steps, and risks differ by iPhone model. Use a guide written for the exact model, rather than assuming another iPhone’s instructions apply.

iPhone 13: calibration and seals
The iPhone 13 guide calls for a replacement screen and display adhesive, along with model-specific tools such as pentalobe and tri-point drivers, opening picks, a suction handle, tweezers, and a spudger. It also warns that opening the display compromises the water-resistant seals. Plan for replacement seals; without them, do not assume the phone retains its previous resistance to liquid exposure.
iPhone 12 Pro: paired sensor assembly
The iPhone 12 Pro guide warns that the paired earpiece and sensor assembly must be transferred carefully. Damage to that assembly can disable Face ID. This warning applies to the iPhone 12 Pro procedure and should not be read as a description of every model’s assembly.

Having the right tools does not by itself verify a replacement part or complete software calibration. If you are uncertain about the model-specific procedure or the repair’s effect on sensors and seals, a qualified repair provider is the safer route.

- Check the repair status: On a supported model, open Settings > General > About and review Parts and Service History. Apple explains that “Genuine” means the repair used genuine Apple parts and processes. “Used” can identify an already-used part on iPhone 15 and later with iOS 18 and later. “Unknown” can mean a part is non-genuine, is not functioning as expected, has not been verified, or has been modified. A new Apple display may show “Finish Repair” until Repair Assistant is completed. See Apple’s Parts and Service History guide.
- Test touch across the screen: Open and move through apps, type, and interact near each edge and corner. Look for missed, misplaced, or unregistered touches, not just whether the display turns on.
- Check True Tone: In Settings > Display & Brightness, confirm whether True Tone is available and behaves as expected under different lighting.
A status label is useful, but it does not replace testing how the display actually works.
