If a lightweight gaming mouse feels twitchy, change one setting or physical factor at a time rather than assuming the mouse is defective or that its low weight is the cause. First check sensitivity, then Windows pointer behavior, grip and fit, the surface, and—if the problem started after replacing them—the mouse skates.
Start with sensitivity
If the problem happens mainly in a game, lower your DPI or in-game sensitivity gradually, then test while keeping the other setting unchanged. DPI is the mouse sensitivity setting; Logitech’s gaming mouse guide explains the term, and Logitech Support recommends lowering DPI when tracking is inconsistent.
There is no universal DPI, eDPI, or game-sensitivity value established for every player and game. Make a small adjustment, use it long enough to judge whether precise movement and stopping feel more manageable, and avoid changing multiple sensitivity controls together. That makes it easier to identify which change helped.
Check Windows pointer behavior if it happens outside games too
If pointer movement also feels inconsistent on the desktop, check Windows settings separately from your game’s sensitivity. Logitech Support suggests lowering Windows Pointer Speed as a troubleshooting step. Razer’s HyperPolling guidance also says to disable “Enhance Pointer Precision” in Windows Control Panel, noting that it can affect how sensitivity feels relative to the set value.

These are settings to check, not guaranteed fixes. Change one at a time and see whether the desktop movement—and, if relevant, the game—feels more predictable.
Separate cursor sensitivity from grip and fit
A mouse can feel hard to control because your hand is slipping or the shape does not suit your hand, even when cursor sensitivity is reasonable. Notice whether you can hold the mouse steadily without gripping harder than feels comfortable, and whether its shape works with the way you naturally hold it.

Logitech G’s guide to mouse shapes and grips identifies grip and hand size as relevant to mouse choice. That supports checking fit; it does not establish that a particular grip style or switching to a heavier mouse will improve your aim. If the mouse slips, address grip and fit as their own issue rather than treating them as a sensitivity problem.
Check the surface before buying accessories
If glide or tracking seems inconsistent, test on a clean, consistent surface. Some gaming mice support surface tuning; Logitech Support recommends using it where available. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific model rather than assuming every mouse has the same controls.

A control-style mouse pad is an optional experiment only if you suspect the surface is contributing to excessive glide or inconsistent tracking. A pad is not a general fix for high sensitivity. Physical friction can affect movement: for example, MSI describes the cable on its CLUTCH GM41 LIGHTWEIGHT V2 as engineered to reduce friction on a pad or desk. That is a manufacturer product description, not independent testing or a recommendation that you need a different cable or pad.
If the issue began after replacing mouse skates
Replacement skate thickness can change the sensor’s height and working distance, which may affect tracking. For its supported models, ZOWIE’s EC2-DW FAQ recommends setting lift-off distance to Medium or High and testing again if tracking problems follow a skate replacement. This advice is model-specific: check your own mouse’s manual or support page before changing lift-off distance.

Choose the next check by where and when the problem occurs

Change one variable at a time and begin with reversible settings before spending money. A twitchy feeling alone does not establish that the mouse is faulty or that lightweight mice inherently cause poor control.
