If a PS5 game download is stuck or slow, first check PlayStation Network status and test the console’s internet connection. Then check the download queue and available storage. For an item that has stalled, pause and resume it; if a download will not start, cancel and delete it, then try again from Game Library. Use Safe Mode only after those basic checks.
1. Check PlayStation Network status
Open the PlayStation status page and look for an alert affecting the relevant service. If there is one, wait for service to return before changing your router or repeatedly restarting the console. PlayStation advises: “If you see any alerts, wait until the service is up and running and then try again.”
2. Test the PS5’s internet connection
- On the PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- If the test indicates a network problem, check the console’s network settings and retry the download.
- If the problem continues, turn off your modem and router, wait five minutes, then turn them back on. This is among PlayStation’s steps for error CE-107928-7; it is a useful network check, not a guaranteed fix for every download problem.
If practical, connect the PS5 to the router with an Ethernet cable and test again. A wired connection is an optional troubleshooting check, not a guaranteed speed upgrade: the result depends on the rest of your network and the service path. PlayStation’s game-start troubleshooting also suggests trying a wired connection in its relevant troubleshooting context.

3. Restart the download the right way
If the download started but has stopped progressing
- Open Downloads/Uploads from the Control Center.
- Select the game download, choose Pause, then choose Resume.
If the download will not start or keeps failing
- Open Downloads/Uploads from the Control Center, select the item, and choose Cancel and Delete.
- Open Game Library, find the game, and start the download again.
These are distinct first actions: resume a stalled transfer; delete and retry an item that fails to start. For error CE-107928-7, PlayStation also advises deleting the content and downloading it again. See PlayStation’s CE-107928-7 support steps.

4. Make sure the game has enough storage
Check free space under Settings > Storage. PlayStation says the minimum free-space requirement for a title can be viewed on that game’s product page. If the console does not have enough room, free space before treating the issue as a network fault.
5. Check system software, then try Safe Mode
Check that the PS5 system software is up to date. If the download remains stuck after the service, connection, queue, and storage checks, PlayStation recommends clearing the console cache and rebuilding its database in Safe Mode.

- Turn off the PS5; do not use Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the console’s power button, releasing it after the second beep.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then choose Rebuild Database.
Follow PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions for the console menu and available options. Rebuilding the database is a recovery step for a persistent stuck download; it cannot guarantee a fix for an underlying network or service problem.

6. Check access if the game is locked or missing
A transfer problem and a license problem are different. If the game is locked or a purchase is unavailable, check that you are signed in to the account that owns it, review transaction history, and confirm any required PS Plus access is active. If another account owns the game, check that console sharing is set up for access.

You can also restore licenses at Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. PlayStation identifies locked games and missing content as reasons to try this; restoring licenses does not affect user data. It is an access check, not a general download-speed fix. If an error code appears, search for that exact code in PlayStation’s PS5 error-code index and follow its specific guidance. For example, PlayStation describes NP-102947-3 as an internet connection that is too slow or unstable to perform an update. That diagnosis applies to that code; it should not be assumed for every stalled download.
