To make workout earbuds last as long as their design allows, reduce optional power use, put them back in their own charged case between sessions, keep sweat off charging contacts, and follow the manufacturer’s temperature guidance. These habits can help avoid preventable drain or charging problems, but no universal number of extra minutes or hours is established; runtime depends on the earbud model and how you use it.
Check what “battery life” means for your earbuds
Manufacturers may report playback from one charge or total listening time that includes recharging from the case. Those are different measures: a case can recharge the earbuds between uses and extend the time before you need to recharge the case, but it does not increase the earbuds’ single-charge playback rating.
Runtime also varies with model and use. Samsung’s US support page lists maximum playback examples of up to 24 hours for Galaxy Buds3, up to 26 hours for Galaxy Buds3 Pro, and up to 7 hours of earbud playback for Galaxy Buds FE; it describes case playback separately and notes that battery life and charging times vary by model and usage. These are Samsung’s model-specific figures, not directly comparable with another brand’s ratings without matching test conditions. Reduce optional power use
Look at the settings and features your specific earbuds use, then turn off options you do not need during a workout. Controls and their effects vary by model, so do not assume a setting available on one pair exists on another.

Sony WF-1000XM3 example
For short battery life on the WF-1000XM3, Sony recommends turning off DSEE HX Auto and Equalizer as troubleshooting steps. This guidance applies to that model; consult your own manufacturer’s instructions before changing settings or expecting a runtime difference. Sony’s WF-1000XM3 battery troubleshooting lists the steps.
Store earbuds in their own charged case
When you take your earbuds out, return them to the case made for that model. Apple recommends putting AirPods in their case when they are not in use. Samsung recommends keeping Galaxy Buds in their charged case with the cover closed and warns against using a case from another model.
Use the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact earbuds and case. A case’s stored charge can replenish the earbuds between sessions, but it does not change the earbuds’ single-charge playback time. See Apple’s AirPods charging guidance and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds battery guidance.

Let sweat and moisture dry before charging
After a sweaty workout, do not put damp earbuds on charge. Samsung warns that liquid, including sweat, on Galaxy Buds charging terminals can cause corrosion. Follow the drying and cleaning instructions for your own model before placing it in its case or connecting power; Samsung’s warning is specific to its Galaxy Buds guidance, not a universal cleaning procedure. Keep earbuds within their recommended temperature range
Check the operating and charging temperature guidance for your model. Apple says very cold conditions outside AirPods’ operating range can temporarily shorten battery life or cause them to shut down; charging may also slow or stop. This describes AirPods, so use your own manufacturer’s temperature instructions for other earbuds. Apple’s AirPods temperature guidance gives more detail.

First consider whether the short runtime is explained by the model’s rating, your usage, or an optional feature. If playback has become materially shorter even after following the manufacturer’s relevant troubleshooting, the battery may no longer hold its original charge. Advice for settings, resets, software updates, and service differs by model; use the maker’s support instructions rather than applying another brand’s steps or assuming a generic replacement battery or case will fit.

What to compare if you replace them
If your current pair cannot cover a workout between charges, compare specifications that match how you will use them:
- Single-charge earbud playback separately from total playback with the case.
- Runtime with noise cancellation or other optional features on and off, where the maker provides comparable figures.
- Compatibility of power-management features with your phone.
- Sweat or water rating and fit for the type of exercise you do.
- Whether the included case and its charging method suit your routine.
Ratings from different manufacturers may use different conditions, so a larger advertised total does not by itself establish longer workout playback.
