The change is announced for new Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web; it is not listed for classic Outlook. The dates below are projected rollout windows, not confirmation that the feature has arrived.
When will the new check arrive?
An archived copy of Microsoft Message Center notice MC1479509 lists these rollout windows. They are prospective dates from the notice, whose details field shows a last-updated/start date of September 25, 2026.

These windows come from a third-party archive reproducing the notice, so they should be treated as planned timing rather than proof of a completed or unchanged rollout. Microsoft Message Center notices are tenant-facing and can change; organizations should check their own Message Center for current status. The archived notice is reproduced here.
Which Outlook versions are included?
MC1479509 names new Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web, and associates the change with Exchange Online. It does not list classic Outlook as a recipient. Microsoft’s broader Editor documentation covers multiple Outlook versions, but that does not expand the scope of this particular announcement.

What changes, and do you need an administrator?
The announced feature is a configurable automatic spelling check before sending. The notice says users will be able to configure the behavior and that no administrator action is required. It recommends that organizations inform users and update internal training or help-desk guidance if those materials explain message-composition settings.
How to check spelling while composing now
New Outlook already provides Microsoft Editor during composition. This in-draft review is separate from the newly announced automatic check before sending.

- Open an email draft and select Editor on the Message tab or in the ribbon overflow menu.
- Review spelling, grammar, and style suggestions in the Editor pane. Suggestions may also appear underlined in the message body.
- Open Editor Settings to turn suggestion types on or off. If you change the proofing language while composing, that language setting applies to the current draft.
