Add a power bank, water bottle, business cards, or travel adapter only when they suit your plans and the venue permits them. Check the event’s latest attendee guide before choosing a bag or packing extras.
Start with entry requirements
Keep your registration confirmation, ticket, QR code, or badge-pickup details in the format the organizer specifies. Bring government-issued photo ID if required. Badge procedures vary: CES’s attendee guide requires government-issued photo ID for onsite badge pickup, while PACK EXPO International 2026 asks attendees to bring printed or digital confirmation for its onsite pickup process.
Check the event’s current rules for bags, prohibited items, and security screening before you leave. For example, CES allows two small bags, each smaller than 12”x17”x6”, and does not accept rolling bags of any size. Those limits apply to CES show venues; they are not a general expo standard.
Pack for a long day on the floor
Phone, charger, and optional backup power
Your phone can hold event communications, schedules, maps, and digital contacts. Bring its charger. A portable power bank is useful if you expect a long day or are unsure about charging access, but it is optional. ASBO’s 2026 attendee tips list “Chargers or portable power bank.” Check the event guide for charging facilities: PACK EXPO, for instance, lists charging stations in its International Business Center, which does not mean charging will be convenient throughout every venue. Verify current airline and venue rules before traveling with a power bank.

Shoes and a comfortable layer
Choose shoes that fit well and are suitable for extended walking. Attendee guidance from ASBO, ASIS&T, and SCTE TechExpo recommends comfortable footwear; ASBO specifies comfortable closed-toe shoes. A light sweater, jacket, or other layer can help you adjust to changing indoor temperatures.
Notes and contact details
A notebook and pen are dependable choices for session notes or quick reminders. Business cards are optional: bring them if you use them, but check whether the event offers a digital contact-sharing option. PACK EXPO International 2026 describes badge scanning for digital contact exchange.

Water, if the venue allows it
A reusable bottle can be convenient when the venue permits bottles and provides refill stations. SCTE TechExpo recommends bringing one because water stations are available there. That is event-specific guidance, so confirm your own venue’s bottle rules and facilities before packing it.
Adjust the list for your event and trip
Use the organizer’s current guide as the final check
Entry documents, bag allowances, water rules, and available services differ by event. SCTE TechExpo, for example, advises attendees to bring photo ID and its Fast Track email with QR code. PACK EXPO International 2026 recommends using its mobile app and My Show Planner and provides event-specific transport and navigation information. These details can make a difference to what you need to carry, but should not be assumed for another show.

For international travel, check the destination’s electrical standards
Pack a travel adapter that matches your destination’s outlets, and check that each device supports the local voltage. ASIS&T’s guidance for its Thailand event recommends a universal travel adapter and checking support for 220 volts. That is Thailand-specific advice, not a safe assumption for every destination; follow the voltage information on your devices and verify the destination’s requirements.

There is no established general statistic for how much technology-conference attendees pack, how far they walk, or how often they use devices. Let the event schedule, venue rules, and your own plans—not a supposed universal packing formula—determine what else to bring.
