Unplug the air fryer and let it cool completely before cleaning. Wash the removable basket and pan with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge; clean the fixed heating area gently with a soft damp cloth or a suitable soft-bristle brush. Never spray or pour water directly onto the heating element, and check your model’s manual because cleaning and dishwasher instructions vary.
What to do before cleaning
- Turn off the air fryer, unplug it, and wait until it is completely cool. Philips suggests waiting about 30 minutes for its Airfryer guidance, but cooling time varies; follow your model’s manual and make sure the appliance is no longer hot. See Philips’ Airfryer cleaning instructions.
- Remove the basket and pan or drawer as described in the manual. Do not immerse the appliance body, cord, or plug.
Clean the basket and pan
- Wash coated removable parts in warm water with dish soap, using a soft, nonabrasive sponge. Avoid metal utensils, abrasive pads, and aggressive cleaners that can damage a nonstick coating.
- For stuck-on food or grease, soak the parts in soapy water for five to ten minutes, then wipe them clean rather than scraping. Bosch also recommends soaking stubborn grease in hot, soapy water.
- Use a dishwasher only if the manual says the specific part is dishwasher-safe. Philips, Frigidaire, and Bosch identify dishwasher-safe removable parts for their respective products; that does not establish that every air fryer basket or pan can go in a dishwasher. Check the Frigidaire cleaning and care guidance or Bosch’s cleaning instructions for those brands.
Clean the heating element
- Check the manual for how to access the heating area. Some manufacturer instructions suggest turning the appliance upside down on a soft cloth, but this may not suit every design.
- Gently wipe the accessible heating area with a soft damp cloth or sponge. For debris that will not wipe away, use a soft-bristle brush only if your manual permits it; do not force the brush into inaccessible areas.
- Do not spray or pour water directly onto the heating element. Swan Products Limited gives this instruction in its heating-element cleaning guidance, updated 3 August 2026.
- Avoid steel-wire or hard-bristle brushes, scouring tools, sharp objects, and abrasive cloths. Philips warns that steel-wire and hard-bristle brushes may damage the element’s coating; Bosch also advises against metal objects, abrasive cloths, scouring pads, alcohol-based cleaners, and sharp tools.
- Do not assume instructions for one model apply to another. For example, Tefal’s cited guidance is for the Fry Delight XL FX1050SA model family, not all air fryers: Tefal’s model-specific instructions.
Dry everything before using the air fryer
Wipe away moisture and let the basket, pan, and heating area dry completely before reconnecting or using the appliance. If residue is unreachable without force, or you notice damage, stop and consult the model’s manual or manufacturer support rather than dismantling the unit or applying more water.
